Get some experience. Learn to distinguish fruits that are warped b/c of bacteria, fruits that are dryish, or overly wet. Many 'weirder' cubes are of PE lineage, and take a little longer to fruit. It helps if you have your cult skills honed before embarking on longer projects.
Once you learn the ropes and know how to grow a healthy crop (and how to diffentiate between a 'weird' crop and one that's just fucky), you'll have the tools you need to search your freak.

Also (speaking from experience here) once you find something you really want to keep, it helps a lot if you have your cloning game in order. And don't have to worry about your grain prep, SAB routine, etc etc. This hobby takes time. And a skillset you don't want to develop in the middle of your magnum opus, so to say.

Numbers.  If you want to find irregularities you need to do numbers.

People don't just choose a variety knowing it will throw a mutant, they grow shitloads of shrooms and eventually one pops out.

If you can fit 4x 22oz wide mouth jars you've got more than enough to work with.

You can also see if you can fit 8x wide mouth half-pint jars, that'll give you more practice and more baskets for your eggs, which is great when you're starting out.

So in theory I could use every PC-compatible jar for grain, as long as I manage to prep a proper lid for gas exchange?

I could fit one quart jar in the PC, but I think having more eggs in the basket is a much better option. Would rather test the waters with smaller tubs, so I guess 4 pints (or lots of half-pints) in shoeboxes is the way to go.

Yes, you can literally use every PC resistant jar for grain :smile:

Yes, you can literally use every PC resistant jar for grain :smile:


I would suggest only using the jars you need, because if you try to use every PC resistant jar, you're going to need a very large pressure cooker.

And you will probably have most of us trying to fight you for our jars.

Which makes me wonder what the rivers in other parts of the world smell like.  The rivers here in Oregon smell different than the ones in Michigan, which smell different than the ones in Texas, which smell different than the ones in Maine....

My first attempt at cloning a cluster. Should I transfer the two thick rope sections and if i do does that mess with the chances of reproducing the cluster?

I'm about to start using these 250 ml media bottles. Any tips for reducing boil over during PC?




What should be the max amount I fill them?


And does bringing the water level up to the level of liquid in the media bottle help as well?


They don't need a hole or anything right just a loose lid?

Cap loose should prevent boil. Doesn't need to be super loose - I think I loosen mine maybe half a turn...

No. It either will clone as clusters or will not.

Transfer a small bit from the edge of the best part. Most of it looks great, but I'd go from 8 oclock. or 7 or 1.

I'd transfer it, send the rest to a jar or two, just because it looks good.

Someone will say the uneven whispy part around 4 and 5 oclock indicates cantam, but I don't think so here.

Transferring smallest part isn't about "isolating sectors" (old non-real b.s), it's about having least chance of bringing contam.

No need to make the water come up at all - I usually process my agar with a raised trivet. As long as it's not overfilled, the lid is loose, and you don't remove the regulator weight until the PC cools to atmospheric pressure, you shouldn't have boilover issues.

I can't find hydrated lime / carbonate calcium anywhere  for the  Pans casing. I've went to gardening stores, fertilizer shops, and animal supply stores ,nobody sells it. I live in Europe.

Is really  essential?
