Should I case with the same under field capacity sub after consolidation or just let it ride until pins and then start misting after it starts pinning? Also thank you for the advice I will keep that in mind from now on. as for cycling evaporation, (not to be a dickhead) I am just wondering with under hydrated sub will it provide enough moisture for consolidation, then evaporation for pins to form and get to 1/2"? my house's ambient rh sits around 50% or so so idk if it would dry out?

Hence the reason i said minimizing evaporative-loss... since you don't want loose what little you've got.

Sorry I mentioned jar consolidation, it will likely be quicker to pin and possibly not even Need a casing. But a coir covering wouldn't hurt after it starts to pin...

The deed is done

I went with coir because the tub lives on a high shelf in the closet and a water tub seemed like disaster waiting to happen.  Also threw in a semp cake that I popped out of a muda.

Looking good, but I was wondering, is the cakes on anything? I'm thinking that the mycelium is going to colonize the coir if not? That was maybe the plan?

Are you willing to try a shoebox route instead of cakes? I've got a shoebox process that's pretty damn simple and hasn't failed me yet

I would do a casing layer at full colonization with cactus soil. I pasteurize it in sandwich baggies in my dehydrator and it works great. I've got a good and easy shoebox process if you're interested

I’d put a barrier between the cake and the coir otherwise the cake will continually wick moisture up. You’re using the coir in the bottom for hydration like perlite or vermiculite?
The chamber looks the correct size. I think the side pins will jump.
I thought you folks would be fed up with my little cake grows by now.

Thanks man, I'll get to it as soon as the kids are sleeping. I'm planning on using just verm, should I sprinkle it on and then mist or get it to field capacity and then sprinkle, something else maybe? :takingnotes:

@Tao I'm using the coir to retain humidity. I don't want to use a water tub on a high closet shelf because it sounds perilous

@Kloakk @Lew I had the same thoughts that each of you mentioned... eventually made no decision and went on autopilot as I made the chamber because 4hrs of sleep :lol:

@Buckdog I tried the shoebox method with a round bucket but got a lot of side pins so popped it out as a cake
