Hell yea some great flushes from both you and Axman! Good stuff fellas :] I've noticed that with the Houston I'm domesticating there's been no weird mutations going on or nothing too crazy. Your guys look great!

Excited to work with some of the samples from around the world, y'all are a great community.

Is anyone aware of someone who has crossed wild varieties with other wild varieties, and then after, mated that with another double wild cross?

While I will grow F1s, on my list is the following:

Costa Rican + Australian = Austrarican
Texan + Malaysian = Texalaysian

Combining those Austrarican and Texalaysian would in theory provide a VERY wide background of global genes. Is it maybe even possible that it would be the MOST genetically diverse cubensis?

If wild populations throughout the world follow the Australian pattern, it seems like there would've likely been temporary genetic bottlenecks wherever cattle was introduced.

I just started a AA+ cross with my Tico, I'm going to document it in my LAGM grow log and see how well it goes.

LFG Ax! That's super exciting! I hope the cross pans out! (would have posted this in LAGM instead/as well but I don't have an exciting update just yet  GT T1s are taking their sweet time :petri:)

Nice! Recently received some Sibu (Costa Rica) and Tenan Negara (Malaysia) wedges.  Hopefully they survived freezing. These are commercialized strains, but ones that have had their wild harvesting only happen with the past few years, apparently, so at least it will provide good crossing potential.

Wild clone (Eungela) dropping, nothing too special about these, all my wild clones seem to behave the same unfortunately.

^ As in just standard cube phenotypes (makes sense I suppose) or low potency/meh yields as well?

Have you tried doing crosses with wild F1s or f2s with more established strains yet?

Sorry for being late to the party, what a great thread!

I currently have something like 20 varieties in my collection with the mission of combining them all (or at least most of them). I have selected them according to most distant genetic relationships. Those have been studied in a paper discussed in another thread. https://psilocydia.net/ is also a great resource.

I've successfully crossed and collected spores from APE x TW, APE x Ecuador, RW x TW and APE x Malabar (10 different crosses on that one). Albino B+ x Malabar and TW x Malabar were spawned to bulk last week, excited to see how those will turn out. I also spawned first grows from fresh batch of spores I recently acquired just to have a confirmation on the spore varieties before I start making monos. At least A+, Treasure Coast and Wollongong seem to be going strong.

That being said, I'd be very interested of contributing to this project. I unfortunately live way too far north to be of any help with the wild print foraging, but more than happy to put in some serious lab hours.

Has anybody tried making monos directly from wild prints (F0)? I was wondering if fruiting those in will cause some unnecessary genetic bottlenecking already in F1. The hypothesis being that some alleles might be unhelpful (and thus recessive) when mated locally within the wild print in lab conditions, but could become dominant (or at least beneficial) when crossed with a domesticated variety directly in F0. It's a bit hard to explain but I think you get the gist.

^ very cool, thank you for sharing info. Crossing your crosses with wild F1s would probably already create a unique and robust genetic profile.

No experience with wild stuff yet, but I get what you mean with the F1s already being a bottleneck. Shouldn't be too bad if the F1s don't go through agar, I think our standard cultivation methods would significantly restrict gene variety.

To me, what would make the most sense is trying to do MS pf tek with wild prints, except that there is the issue that they are filthy. Maybe the compromise is clean it up on agar then make blenderless LI with a t1 or t2 tops plate. Will be clean enough for pf tek, and that way you could get fresh prints and swabs while minimizing bottle necking.

On that note, based on 3AMs work, it's not like wild prints are popping out amazing phenos, seems to output pretty standard stuff. I think that injecting refreshing the gene pools with wilder cultures is going to be already beneficial, by providing new mating pairs.

On another note, shotcout to Tri in hooking me up with Sibu and Teman Negara, which are a non-sponser commercial strains that were from wild prints in Costa Rica and Malaysia within the past 4 years or so.

Was worried that the frozen agar wouldn't survive (from being outside in winter), but got some growth on my T0s, will transfer some tomorrow!

@Muumilleniaali: Not sure on the F0s, a bit new still to have had experience with any wild F0s, let alone to attempt to get a mono from them. Glad to have you on the thread, though!

Stipe recently posted this. I think it has plenty of potential tbh, as if it works, it could give us a reliable means to have cleaner F0s to work with. :takingnotes:

That is very interesting! Yeah, if that works reliably, it is a way to solve the issue of wild samples immediately getting bottle-necked via agar work.

I want to try crosses using this method as well!

He replied to my question in the QQ thread about reviving dried fruits on agar, which then spawned a conversation in the threads on how spores can survive 160°F which is the average dehydration temperature.

I have a few spore syringes I made from one of my F-0 prints, I need to source a Sous Vide and attempt to pasteurize one of them for science.

It's also a theory that dirty prints could be put in a dehydrator for a few hours in an effort to clean/pasteurize them.

I'm not sure if it has been tested yet though. Definitely interesting stuff. If you could take wild prints and pasteurize them, it would be much easier to get clean plates.

@Husky

I had good success with wild prints to BRF pucks so I have no doubt that PF tek is superior because of the contaminated nature of wild prints.

The dehydrator would just be the heat sourse, the spores would still need to be suspended in water. You can use your stove, no requirement for a sous vide or a dehydrator.

Fair enough, sounds like a plan for this weekend, I have two different varieties of cubes in syringes that are definitely contaminated, I'll run each on plates before and after the water bath.

^ Nice! I'm in the process of cleaning up some wild Australian and others provided from other users here!

What I have right now in terms of wild genes (and "wild enough for gene variety"

Costa Rica
Tico - Costa Rica - from Axman
Sibu - Costa Rica - Non-sponsor commercial strain with recent collection date

Malaysia
Taman Negara - Malaysia - Non-sponsor commercial strain with recent collection date

Australian (thanks 3AM)
Stokers
Murbah
Slippery Crossing
Eungella
Burringbar
Chinderah

Still cleaning all of this on agar so no swaps yet. I will keep the community updated. Maybe I'll do a sticky in the first post with available genes in the community.
