5150, I do the same with spent substrate. So far nothings fruiting yet. Still a good way to get rid of old cakes.

All the caps look so shiney and fresh. Did you get any close-up pictures?

Anyway, to ansewr some questions, yes I have grown them indoors. No they didn't grow well on cakes(or cased for that matter) Thats why I moved them outside. Maverick, to be specific, I used old, dried out cow dung. I imagine horse dung would work also, but I used cow dung, Figured I would have better results since thats what they grown on in the wild(never seen cubensis in horse dung before)

GGreat234, actually I didn't try the mushrooms grown outdoors. I gave them to my best friend so he could smaple some I did try some from my indoor setup. They were good. Typical cubensis trip. Maybe a little more potent than wild cubensis. I didn't get very good close-ups(Blury)But I do have a shot of the harvested frutis.

However, if I can find psilocybe weilii this fall, I would definately construct an outdoor bed. I was even thinking about giving the cope. cyans a try outdoor this year. I've never heard of anyone trying that. I'll bet it would result in much larger fruit size(But thats just a guess)

As for the cyans and azures, I'll just have to make a trip this fall so I can see in person, what I've read about for so long. I would love nothing more than a chance to hunt for the many northwestern species. Besides, IMO, I would like northwest mushroom hunting much better than southeast pasture pickin'. You can pick in daylight and on public property in the NW. Instead of some rednecks cow pasture in the middle of the night. I hate jumping fences and running from pissed of, inbred white trash(theres plent of em' where I pick)

Anyway, Glad to see you found your way back around here. For everyone who doesn't know acidhead, he is the person that introduced me to the wonderful cultivation of magical mushrooms, and to this web-site. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have discovered the best hobby I've ever took intrest in!

Acidhead, I'll swing by your house next weekend and take you out to the fields for a good shroom pickin' At least I hope we find something? Anyway, the mountains kicked ass. We caught a shitload of rainbow trout and wild brook trout. It was a blast, especially with the dankage I brought with mmm, mmm... I can smell it now

To maverick: The dung was pasteurized at 160 deg. for 45 minutes in a pillow case on the stove top.

To Psyconaut: Yeah, I did get a few bug holes in the caps and stems. Just a few though, wasn't too bad at all. I am growing in a green house right now though. Basically I'm using Hawks setup. Its worked awesome so far. I have a fully colonized casing, just waiting for it to pin. I hate waiting

This post probably should go into hunting, but I wanted to make sure you saw it.

It sounds like you really did find a hobby. Is your statement really true? "the cubies fruit wild so well around [Georgia]" (don't exagerate now, because I want that to be true sooooo bad). I've been out a few times now to the I-20E area, and found some easily accesible fields full of cows, and I have even found other mushrooms, but no cubies.

I know it's a bit early and not consistently warm yet, but have you found any wild ones yet this year? I'm in the Marietta area (as you know), which can't be much different than that other place, so I think I'll just scope out the areas closer to home. I also have a legitimate way of hunting in daylight, that I think would completely disarm Bubba. I haven't had any human encounters yet, but I actually do enjoy birdwatching, and I really do stop to look at and identify them (and other things) through my 10 power binoculars. Works for me!

Your mountain hiking trip should have given you opportunites to get familiar with potential P.Weilii habitats. Come September, I'm going on an all out hunt for those babies.

Anyway, Yes I have found cubies this year. About 1 1/2 weeks ago. I'm tellin' you, they ARE out there. I swear it to you! I picked them, and I ate them twice. I never said I found that many, I was lookin' in late november-early december. So what was out there was scarce. The first cubensis in Georgia that I found in my field, was actually found by my closest friend. It was a perfect cubensis. Pure white, witha touch of gold in the center. I took a print and even tried growing them. The other cubensis I found in that field, I found myself. I found four small cubensis in a single cow pie onn december 2nd 1999, off exit 44 on I-20(what is now exit 88) Here is some pictures. Only one of these mushrooms was printable. The one in my hand.

I promise Cubensis fruit out I-20. I have one paticular field and one only, that I have picked cubensis in. I know it will produce well this spring. The next cubensis I find(soon)I am going to E-mail you ASAP and we my friend are going on a mushroom hunt. I have no problem meeting up with you, as long as you don't mind hanging out with a 19 year old. I will take you to MY field and show you the cubies. So you can see them with you own eyes, and taste them with your brain
