I did go in only weighing about 130.  Came out 145.  I don't know the reason, maybe less beer and more food?

By definition,  Marines are assholes. Its a nesscary evil. Anti Civilian sentiment also runs deep, because they are "weak".

The philosophy for me was equip them like shit, treat them like shit, feed them like shit, train them in the middle of shit....that way the learning curve for war is attainable.

My CO made me go through a battalion gear inspection the day of my EAS. Had to check everything out of supply and then back again. There was not transition into civilian...which creates alot of confusion.

It is hefty additional sum to put on. If 100% the weight that you gained during that time was pure muscle, then that much might strain credulity. However 15 pounds of muscle and fat, no less in about 2 months worth of time, and under the right conditions & circumstances?  Sure. Even more so probable if it occurs while you were younger & hitting a growth spurt. 

Throw in some extra potent special secret sauwce into the food and then it’s very possible. :yesnod:  Ha, I’ve also heard a number of marines claim their superiors somehow messed with the food during basic.  No idea if it’s true or not, but I recall taking most of their stories with a healthy helping of some salt.  A good chunk of them were juicing on their own anyways, and a good chunk of those dropped like flies to alcohol, benzos, roids, stims, & opiates once they were back in society. :sadyes:

If they cannot get a high school diploma they can pick crops or litter from the roadsides

Only thing I heard is that they put saltpeter in the food which is a myth. Mandatory service would be a disaster, there is something to say about an all voluntary force.

Moreover, just like any institution  there are good and bad people in the military. When I got out, my best freinds were a Mexican from east LA, a Jew from New York, a black dude from Mississippi and full blood Cherokee (which almost killed me one night)....something that would have never occured if I hadn't gone in....being raised racist.

I don't find it too weird now that I am older and fatter.  I can lose and gain six pound in a week now with out concentrating one way or the other. My highest was 182 and now I am 168 but just two weeks ago I was 162.  Probably going to die soon.  I know somebody that lost 40 lbs  in six months and was diagnosed with stage four cancer.  Good thing I am not a real worrier.

I was kind of proud of the weight gain at 18.

There should be a placement test, before you sign up for military or school or a job.

We have generally been broken down into groups, no matter which sector. Each one would be captained by someone with ordinary, common sense, beneath which, it should not be society's moral duty to educate you, in my experience.

This is an excuse for a property tax, and noone's house should be put in jeopardy over that Gomer Pyle guy or activists trying make everything gross. Sorry, not sorry.
