Your point still stands as valid.

Nothing we're doing in the cult section is natural.  It's all artificial environments that we create to optimize growth.

Most psilocybe environments we find them in are not natural.  European dune grass on the west coast of the US is an imported invasive, pine plantations in OZ are imported, chip beds in urban and suburban areas are in no way natural.  Grain spawn is not natural.  Nothing we're doing is natural and we ARE NOT trying to mimic their natural environments.  I don't want the kind of sparse growth you get with natural patches in their real habitat.

Just a quick question. How long do ps. cyan pins take to become mature fruit in outdoor beds? I have a bunch popping up and it's supposed to go below freezing next week. I'm hoping they are big enough to harvest before then.

In my experience freezing for multiple nights in a row stunts them and they won't grow.. :frown:
You can tell when they were frozen too badly once they turn totally dark blue.

It depends on a lot of factors, but anywhere from 1-3 weeks.  If you get a freeze and they start to turn, yank em and dry em full blast.  You'll still get something for your effort.

You could also try to save them by putting a cloche over them like you would with a garden row.

Humans aren't amazing.. they are everything.
A brain so complex it can mimic anything and be whatever.
This is why we see such contrast between the most vilest and the most pure, kind hearted of men.

Our brains have reached an evolutionary point where they can do literally anything given the time, focus and energy.

What most brains choose to do.. it depends on a lot of things. Personal circumstances, needs, requirements, pressures, etc..

But in a scenario of infinite money and time, our brains can become anything. And that is magic.

Where did you get Gym mycelium? (or spores) :O
I've been meaning to expand my collection (right now I only have Cyan and Azure beds and only the Cyans have fruited at that)

Would love to one day have Allennii, Ovoids, Subs.. even Gymns!

A nice feller here on the org reached out with gym spores. Wild fruits. I tried once but didn’t really know what I was doing and put them to outdoor chips straight from grain and trich gobbled it up first 🤣

I’m trying the indoor approach now, like cubes. We will see!

 That mycelium served an honorable purpose.. now we all know that you can't do that!

Still, that's nice of them. So many interesting mushrooms produce these tryptamines that are outside the Psilocybe genus.. a dream would be to have a giga garden plot with every single psilocybe containing species. (Once full legalization occurs in much of the world, that task will become simpler.. but still close to impossible! The hardest part would be being able to create the optimal fruiting conditions for all of them in the same garden land plot.. let alone being able to get your hands on spores/mycelium!)

Here are some photos showing the progressive growth of BOTH P. Azurescens and P. Cyanescens in the same tub! (Separated in the middle with a stone slab, but they still meet at the sides so we can observe how strange it is when Azurescens and Cyanescens mycelium meet!)

Its also an amazing side-by-side comparison of Psilocybe Azurescens VS Cyanescens mycelium!

On the left is P. Azurescens. On the right is P. Cyanescens. (From our POV)

Still not seeing any signs of fruiting of my psilocybe cyanescens beds, but there is vigorous mycelium growth and the beds are a solid cake (I will post pics when I get the chance).

I saw the post about putting an empty Minton bin upside down over the bed to increase humidity + initiate fruiting.  How well does this work? How long should it take for me to see any signs of fruiting after this? Any help is appreciated!

Critique is not "shitting on you"... If I was shitting on you, there would be no question that I was doing so. Very few people find agar work exciting, but it's kinda just bitching about it if you bothered by doing a batch once every 18-24 months.

That's the arrogance I was talking about. It is a scientific fact that dolphins and whales have larger brains than ours, with more folds than us too. Do you not see how arrogant it is for us to claim we are the smartest creatures when we can't even communicate with creatures that have more evolved brains than ours, who can communicate to each other across multiple species, and have existed FAR longer than us? Hell, we can't even properly communicate with others of our own species, let alone any other animal that exists. The only things that makes humans the top of the food chain are our adaptability, opposable thumbs, and our arrogance.

Stipe-n Cap said:
If a species is endemic to a geographic location/region, then placed into a hitherto unreported location, within an unnaturally occurring habitat (man made), the location is most certainly artificial.

You do understand that "location" and "environment" are two completely different words with two different meanings, right? If you're going to make a counter-argument, use the proper words. Different locations often have the same or similar environments (temp range, humidity, amount of light, etc), and similar environments to their native location are a REQUIREMENT for them to fruit outside of their native locations.

So please, tell me what is so "unnatural" or "man-made" about growing WL's on small pieces of wood (their natural food source), outdoors, where rain and natural weather/seasonal patterns relatively match the species' native location's natural environmental conditions? Growing WL's outdoors is still growing them in their natural conditions (environment), whether the bed is naturally grown or spawned by humans. The reason I can grow the common WL's in southern Indiana is because our ENVIRONMENT is close enough to the environment of the PNW that they'll still fruit here. And the reason why allenii won't grow in southern Florida is because the ENVIRONMENT is too dissimilar to their native environment.

Mr Piggy said:
Ahh yes, since we are fruiting them in their completely natural habitats of chip beds.

Piggy once again proving he doesn't understand the definitions of simple words... Wood is still wood, whether it is sticks and bark that have naturally fallen off a tree, or it's sticks and bark that were ground up in a wood chipper. That statement was as dumb as saying food becomes artificial when we chew it... WL species will readily colonize mulch beds on their own without any help at all from humans, proving my argument. Yes Piggy, small broken up pieces of wood ARE their natural habitat... That's why we mimic Nature by growing them in wood chips beds instead of from logs, or cow shit. It's not like you're growing them on shredded car tires or plastic, so wtf is so "artificial" about growing them from small pieces of wood?

Mr Piggy said:

Right... Because you're creating artificial sunlight, and artificial substrates that are not wood, and you're creating artificial beneficial bacteria that work artificially in conjunction with the mycelium, and you have full control of the artificial weather patterns and artificial fruiting seasons. NOT!

Once again, you don't control shit. You are just another animal spreading culture no different than any old cow eating cube spores and then shitting them back out so the fungal colony can spread to new locations. The only difference is you inefficiently culture mycelium externally, instead of internally like a cow. Guess the cow figured out how to work smarter, not harder...

Your "set it and forget it" method of cultivation is literally nothing more than you just plopping out masticated wood spawned with culture on the ground like a painfully chunky cow patty, and you're hilariously calling that "artificial"...
:lmafo:

The fungus has more control over you than you do it, which is evident by the fact that you actually think growing fungus on their natural carbon nutrient source, outdoors, in regions with the same/similar natural seasonal temps and natural weather patterns is somehow "artificial". I bet you think planting a walnut tree in your yard means it's "artificial" walnut cultivation, even though squirrels have been planting walnut trees in North America every winter for millenia before humans first traveled here... For fuck's sake, the wind has done more fungal species cultivation than every human who's ever existed combined. So I guess all those fungal beds the wind created by spreading spores miles from their "natural environment" must be artificial too, since the fungi didn't do it themselves...
