First timer and my some of the shrooms veils started to break before I was ready ha. So I picked all the ones that broke and also ones that had veils that looked like they were going to break soon, then I left the rest. Am I supposed to mist indirectly even though first flush isn't done or do I wait until I harvest the rest? Second question- since I wasn't fully prepared and didn't have a dehydrator I'm doing the fan in the oven (oven not on) can I keep the mushrooms in bunches or I should individually separate them and spread them out?

Sorry I don't really know about the method you're doing. However when you're drying I would suggest yes spreading everything out don't let it all Bunch up together or it's just going to keep adding moisture into everything underneath. If you want things to dry and dehydrate properly they need to have space and Air in between them.

You could put them all in a paper bag and wrap them up and tape the paper bag shut and put them in your refrigerator until you're dehydrator arrives. That's what I did. My dehydrator didn't get here until 4 days later so I just pulled them out of the refrigerator yesterday and dehydrated them.

I was out this morning and ran into these guys who look suspiciuosly familiar.

I'm not gonna eat them or anything. Just curious, so if anyone knows what they are off the top of their heads, I would appreciate a probable ID. The bottom of the cap has gills that are the same color as the top of cap

Temp 80F. 12 hour days. Growing in a compost enriched lawn area

Agreed and also I don't know what trk ur using but likely if you're getting a good harvest keep what you're doing what you're doing until 2nd flush

Np.. paper lunch bags you can get them from Walmart or the dollar store. You can get a whole bunch of them for really cheap.

And yes to  what seriously trippin said. You shouldn't need to mist or anything until your second flush. You're doing great from what it sounds like keep up the good work!

There is a mushroom identification thread you might find better results for your question if you post it there.

I just misted a few of my tubs.
So how come 1 of my tubs has water droplets and the other part that has thicker mycelium doesn't form water droplets on top?
Is this because I skipped on top layer? Is it ok for me to mist the tub that has thicker mycelium even if the webbing/knitting disappears when it gets wet??

check „matted mycelium“ - its what can happen when surface conditions are off. its a protection by the mycelium and does not promote good knotting and pinning. happens sometimes when rh is too low and you mist too much.
tiny droplets on the surface is what you want. better not to overdo it

edit: once matted your best option might be to case it and give it time and a good amount of litfa

whether misting is advantageous or even necessary depends on many factors.
it cannot be generalized like that.

What is the best way to deal with it? Is the tub still salvageable?

yeah, i was slow but edited my message.
case it and LITFA

looks like there are some knots, so… you will have some mushrooms either way!

Ok thanks. Do you think that a ceiling fan in the room I'm growing in occasionally being turned on could have dried out the tubs?
I'm sure they were at field capacity.

Disappear maybe wasn't the right word. It doesn't completely disappear. It just looks like the moisture from the bottle dampens the knitting to the point of it sinking down a little and getting a little bit darker from the moisture.

Also is this yellow stuff contamination?

this looks like grains to me?
didnt you say you didnt cover them?
could be some métabolites inbetween too.

anyways stop soaking the mycelium - it reacts by matting..
a casing layer otoh helps keeping idéal conditions.
good luck 🎉

Sorry I was kind of speaking in terms of shoe boxes and that's just the information I was given. I know on brf cakes you definitely have to missed. But for an unmoded shoe box you shouldn't really have to as long as you have proper Field capacity

I was also told you shouldn't be misting once you've already got pins or fruits coming because too much water on them will cause them to abort. Ie the shouldn't really need misting until a second flush. For un mod shoe boxes though I don't know about other things.

sorry friend.
even for unmodded shoeboxes - you cannot generalise it.
no need to defend that
let me put it like this:
it all depends..
some genetics dont like to be misted once pinning, others thrive on it! know your cultures is all i can say.
did you use a (pseudo) casing? are you living in a desert? how hot or cold is your room…

when i speak about misting i mean ultra fine mist (not all spray bottles deliver)

but you are right, when a shoebox is properly prepared it should be set and forget and you will get (more or less) mushrooms.
doing nothing is the hardest part when starting out..

keeping surface conditions ideal (and there are great threads on surface conditions) leads to increased yields. as simple as that.
