Yeah that's my philosophy too. But I really need to test a 12hr batch for a few years here because I do lose more weight the more time it's in. When I left it in over 24hrs sometimes I'd lose a .2-.4 on 40gs wet that should've shrunken to 4gs dried but instead went down to 3.6 dried for example.

When I put it in for 12hrs at 158 it's exactly 1:1 30gs wet comes out to 3gs dried. I like that.

But like you said to err on the side of caution I never do less then 24hrs unless I know I'm going to eat them within the week.



It would seem to me that if you're losing more weight after 12 hours.
then it's probably because you didn't get all of the moisture out in that 12 hours.

Even though when you do 12 hours you say you only lose the recommended amount of weight and it appears to be "cracker" Whatever the recommended amount of weight is sioppesed to be lossed maybe. I believe the only weight content you can lose through the dehydrator is the water content.

Once  all of the water content is gone the only way you can lose weight from that point is to physically get rid of the product IE burning it or something where it actually disintegrates and is no longer.

I have a feeling on the ones that you did for 12 hours if you wouldn't have eaten them within a week you might have seen that they ended up still having moisture in them and rehydrate a little bit. Which is why they would be heavier
