I'm confused. Why would one store a green jar in the first place?

Ah, not sure why I couldn't pick that up from context.

I've never stored mine upside-down and hadn't read of anyone doing that. Seems pretty annoying - they are much more stable right-side-up. I'm also curious to hear the underlying motivation for doing that.

Personally, I don’t understand putting in all the work and months of my time to actually get fruits and then skimp out on drying time to save 12 hours.  In the grand scheme of things another 12 hours is nothing compared to all the time I put in to clean a culture, colonize grain, and finally spawn it.  Maybe 12 hours is enough in some instances but a lot of people before us figured out 24 hours was the standard.  I’d rather have the piece of mind they’re cracker dry and will stay that way

Yeah that's my philosophy too. But I really need to test a 12hr batch for a few years here because I do lose more weight the more time it's in. When I left it in over 24hrs sometimes I'd lose a .2-.4 on 40gs wet that should've shrunken to 4gs dried but instead went down to 3.6 dried for example.

When I put it in for 12hrs at 158 it's exactly 1:1 30gs wet comes out to 3gs dried. I like that.

But like you said to err on the side of caution I never do less then 24hrs unless I know I'm going to eat them within the week.

It would seem to me that if you're losing more weight after 12 hours.
then it's probably because you didn't get all of the moisture out in that 12 hours.

Even though when you do 12 hours you say you only lose the recommended amount of weight and it appears to be "cracker" Whatever the recommended amount of weight is sioppesed to be lossed maybe. I believe the only weight content you can lose through the dehydrator is the water content.

Once  all of the water content is gone the only way you can lose weight from that point is to physically get rid of the product IE burning it or something where it actually disintegrates and is no longer.

I have a feeling on the ones that you did for 12 hours if you wouldn't have eaten them within a week you might have seen that they ended up still having moisture in them and rehydrate a little bit. Which is why they would be heavier

Is it okay to continue to use lid rings that are rusted in the bottom of my PC to raise the trivet? Is the rust going to cause any problems with contaminating the jars or containers or whatever is inside getting sterilized?

It's fine. it will leave a rust ring around the outside of the jar that's tough to get off but won't hurt anything

Theyll eventually crumble to dust. Invest $5 and try this.

How do you cut your parafilm for conditiment cups?
Especially if you have a big normal double roll
Do you use 1/4? Because you can cover one with it

What do you feel is leaving the shrooms when you dry for 24vs12?

Honestly I'd need more expierence to accurately answer that. In the incredibly small sample size I had I it lost less weight and I swear i felt it was more reliably potent but that's probably just how it affected me those specific nights.

My gut tells me though that's there's no real difference except 24hr-48-72hrs makes it more and more shelf stable and allows for less spoiling long term.

Until your mushrooms stop losing weight, there is still water in them and they are not shelf stable yet.

Whatever weight they are when they stop getting lighter is the actual weight of your mushrooms.

Thats great to know thank you  yeah that's why I said i can't answer it until I'm more expierenced but given all the knowledge here i instinctively knew that the longer it dehydrates the better.

The only time I'd dehydrate for 12 hours is if I planned to consume it in like 5 days or less and I live in a super dry environment so that's probably not good advice for most.</font>

And the only reason I'd do that is impatience probably if I wanted to trip that night

Last fresh trip 50g Kodama. I’ll multiply what I’d be taking dry that day by 10. It’s not a 1:10 ratio exactly but you know it’s good enough. I take big doses anyway so im not recommending someone take 50g if they’re not familiar with that territory.
