I would emotionally uninvest and move on, whether that means throwing it away or leaving it in a corner or growing it out as planned, thatโ€™s up to you. But remove the expectation of fruits ๐Ÿ‘ and begin working on your next endeavor

I'm getting ready to try the PF Tek.
What kind of verm should I use?

I have some that is extremely fine(like grains of sand) and I also have some that is extremely coarse and large(like gravel). Better yet what should I be using the fine for and what should I be using the very coarse for?

Because the bag of course is a pretty big bag and I wouldn't want it to be wasted. Here's some pictures of what I got







Also when I inoculate the jars does the needle go into the top layer of verm and threw it making contact with the brown rice flour mixture underneath? Or does the needle hover  above the layer of verm on top and the lc put directly on top of it?

callmehippie I really hope someone can answer that for you, I asked the question prior to starting pf Tek but nobody answered it so I just went with "professional grade" which was a pretty fine type of vermiculite. So far it's working but I won't know 100% until I get fruits.

Re: inoculation om verm layer vs. BRF... Even if you "miss" the BRF and only hit the vermiculite gravity will still cause it to reach the BRF eventually.

fine or medium verm is what you want. put the needle in far enough to get past the dry layer.

i shove it in all the way (which, give or take, will be like 2/3 of the way down in the mixture, and tilt it toward the side of the jar so I can see how much is going in. just a few drops her hole (personally i have four in my lids) is enough

If I take the jars out your PC after the pressure drops, around how long do they usually take to cool down for inoculation?

Is latching your shoeboxes still current and best tek?

My tubs are not airtight (as far as I can tell). No o-ring and I can see a small amount of evaporation occurring because there is no condensation on the lid around the edges of the lid.

A couple hours, it can be nice to let them sit overnight

Just started my first PF grow after 2 successful attempts of growing mold on grain.

I probably should have asked this before inoculating the jars but regarding field capacity, how dry is too dry? And what happens if you inoculate dry PF cakes?
When squeezed the mixture a little water came out between my fingers but there were no drips from below. I used the ratios in the TEK and didn't want to mess with it for fear of messing it up.

Also, I plan on sending my cakes to bulk (provided they are all clean). I'm slightly unsure regarding monitoring surface conditions. Am I right in thinking I should leave it until the bulk is fully colonised then mist as needed to keep water droplets on the surface? Then stop misting again once the pins come through to avoid bacteria?

I use the "Montgomery 5L Clear Modular Storage Container" from Bunnings that are even cheaper, but they are too sealed to click the lid in place, not a problem just don't click the lid in place and they work fine and only use a couple inches of sub, or don't use the lids, fill them up about 4 inches and put them in a larger ez dial monotub, I can fit 4 x in a 90L monotub :shrug:

I think those Sterilite shoeboxes are designed to allow some FAE for storing shoes, so any tub that isn't Sterilite brand might require some dialing in to find the correct level of FAE.

I have some of the Montgomery 5L tubs I use with 2mm diameter holes in the Ez dial style but without the top FAE holes and the lid not clicked in place for varieties that like more FAE than cubes.

I got 6 cakes 4 are pinning everywhere. One looks normal and one looks a little concerning. Top pic middle cake




In the bottom Pic it's middle right

The growth seems pretty slow and steady

What do you guys think? What am I looking at? So I can learn what it is. Just thick mycelium I'm guessing?

Is there a point to clone a mushroom that comes from a liquid culture from a clone? Will it be exactly the same or will they evolve if you do that?

I've done 90 minutes with a 10 minute vent each time, hovering between 15-17 psi. This is one of the angles where I think there might be something, because these jars are not "turning bacterial". They are totally resistant to colonization from the first moment.

They are stickers but they're glued down with the industrial adhesive I don't recall the name of. They are supposedly 3 microns from Amazon and reviews show other people not having contamination issues.

It was always my LC and now that I've inoculated with confirmed clean culture it's just something totally non-specific about my technique.

So the 2nd flush in my all in one grow bag is growing all over the sides of the bag.
I seem to remember reading that you can take the bag off and they'll still grow..or something like this?

Kia Ora mate,

I'm only running 2-4 shoe boxes atm (will be 4 total when my ape jars finishes colonizing in a few days). I was hoping to use the montgomeries for larger batches on my second run whenever that happens, they are a good price. Thanks for the tek link, I'll keep it on hand.

How do you mean?    It's already spawn and substrate together since it's an all in one bag. So are you saying just break it all up into a tub and cross my fingers? Or I need to break it up into a tub and add some more substrate?  Am I a fool for even trying at this point? Or should I toss it and just spend my time learning the pf tek  before anything.i mean at this point it's all experimental.


Oh it has substrate. I assumed it didnโ€™t because I thought from the chunk you had in your hand youโ€™d already broken it up.

If you want to try fruiting it, try fruiting it. If a jar I made in house looked like that I would throw it out without hesitation, BUT it would be one of many jars and the loss wouldnโ€™t be felt.

Itโ€™s contaminated. It will probably fail, but weโ€™ve all seen contaminated spawn throw out a few mushrooms. The only thing you have to lose by waiting to see if it fruits is something you were going to throw away anyway.

Definitely start PF tek if thatโ€™s your next step. Always start working on the next project

Iโ€™m getting frustrated vibes, but donโ€™t get grumpy. Yes, itโ€™s something non-specific because we donโ€™t watch your process like a football coach trying to show you where you fucked up the play.

Obviously youโ€™re doing something wrong because something is consistently going wrong and you APPEAR to have clean inoculant.

I know people get away with those stickers, but Iโ€™d ditch those for real filters personally. Otherwise youโ€™re going to have to tell us everything and expect some critique. Thatโ€™s literally why youโ€™re here

Use 3  - 4 stickers or add mp tape.

They're too risky, I've had multiple jars fail from filter failure using the thin stickers.
