My experience with jars that look like that is if I let them continue to grow a bit, they'll get much harder to break apart. They look like they've got plenty to shake, break apart and distribute - then the mycelium will recover and keep spreading. At this stage in the jars, I'm usually checking in every 4-6 days, usually shaking them, until they are at complete coverage at 4-6 days after a good shake.

Shaking helps make more inoculation points and thus the mycelium grows faster. Added benefit that you weaken the mycelium already in there, so if anyone bacteria is in there it'll be slow to recover and you'll be able to catch it before you mix it in with good spawn.

Are either of these wispy bits mycelium? I know the second one is bacterial as fuck (so were the other 10), I’m just wondering if anything’s salvageable here

The cleaner looking is the last of some pre poured ones I bought from the ‘zon for emergency cloning hah. Gotta work on my SAB technique big time.

Cloudy agar is just as bright and smart as clear agar. Don’t be fooled by the clarity priests trying to get you to convert to their church of translucence.

My plates have been everything from chunky and full of sediment to pristine blue glass. Mycelium don’t give af.

I've got grains pcing at the moment and planned on sending these to grains. Though the more that I look at these plates, the more I question it. I know there's a crap shit ton of different growth going on from it originating from a syringe - but I'd like to say they're healthy just with faint growth in areas and whatnot. What do your eyeballs say about these dishes? (It's only two). Single shots of each in the light.

Why is a plate pin considered a good thing to clone? Just shows it can grow fast and well so it will likely have that trait when sent to bulk?

I don’t see any slime on this jar. Grain does look glossy. Only spot not colonized. Agar to grain 8/13
So my question is do yall think it looks ok?

I don't know enough to answer your question satisfactorily but I'll add that another benefit is that a plate pin will be clean, so if you were ever worried about contamination, taking a small sample from the inside of an in vitro pin will pretty much eliminate any contamination issues you may have had before.

Doesn't look great to me, sorry to say. Lots of bare grains pushed up against the glass, spotty colonization up top - seems bacterial.

Worth giving it a shake to see if it recovers. Even then, it would be best to spawn it on its own (shoebox or Ziploc bag) instead of mixing with other spawn.

Mostly it means the resulting culture will be relatively eager to fruit, even in less than ideal conditions. And since you've taken a fruiting body, you also have a clone, so potentially more consistent traits (including time to fruit -> higher chance of a canopy) when you do fruit it.

You actually don't need to try to take a sample from the inside of a plate pin. You can transfer it whole - it's grown under conditions just as sterile as the rest of the mycelium on the plate. (And good luck getting an inner tissue sample from a tiny pin. :lol:)

If you really really want to fruit it, I would not even shake it - that will just give the bacteria present more reach... - let it finish colonising as is and spawn it to just 1quart of coir to give a chance for the mycelium to win the race.
