Some random blocks. Gonna get some legit cultures in a few weeks now that summers finally winding down and it’s not 110 every day. Tried fruiting the whole block for second flush of the Pioppino but either it was spent or needed to be soaked.

It’s amazing how dense blue oyster is compared to pinks. I managed to dig up some 3 year old syringes from Meyers with a little left in them, chestnut and pearl came back to life immediately.

Oysters are looking really good. How are you doing farm on your fruiting setup?

Thanks man.

Right now I’m just using one of those steel shelve racks wrapped in tarp with a humidifier inside. Once it cools down I’ll probably switch to a tent or humidify a room and start doing it for real. Gotta build a steamer next so I can do a bunch of blocks.

I made two massive bags of blue oyster that are about colonized, I only weighed one and it was about 17lb so I’m curious what the yields gonna be.

Well those oysters look good in any case especially in an impromptu fc.

You won't regret a steamer. Once you get the pieces it's easy to setup. Shroomsisay's guide is one to follow and if you have any questions we're here to help.

I never got a second flush from either of my pioppinos as I assumed there was plenty of moisture left in the sub, maybe I assumed wrong? Do they need to be soaked?

I have no idea, I haven’t gotten a second flush from anything so far really but this block put out almost a pound (And had mold on the bottom during colonization) so I set it by the trash pile.  Yesterday I finally went to throw it in the can and not only has the mold not spread but it’s producing a huge second flush pinset.

Second flush starting

It’s just weird they don’t seem to want to pin in the same spot twice.

This bag pinned waaaay quicker than my first ones, I only noticed cuz I was moving stuff to make more space on the shelves. Cut it open but I think it’s too late for most of them. Looks like tamp

Got my first shiitake fruiting, others spawned earlier and completely brown aren’t, should I cold shock them?

You'll want to strip that bag - fruits will grow all around no matter what you do. Shiitake don't seem to need much humidity or FAE either - had nice looking fruits with bare blocks in monotubs, misting once a day or so.

Mine definitely pinned faster after cold-shocking (I left them in the garage in the winter for...days, oops, and they had pretty large pins in the bag). But the first time, I just rinsed them in cold water and gave 'em a smack before putting into the tubs, and they pinned in the next few days.

Sweeet!
It’s already out of the bag and in the fruiting chamber but if I can fruit in tubs that’ll be even better, cheers mate!

 Good to see your gourmets popping!

I don't have a proper fruiting chamber (I haven't been able to make time to research, buy, build, and deal with ventilation ). I don't know whether it would have made mine fruit better. Maybe worth trying some in both places

Finally have a promising bag of blues going, is that big blob in the center going to turn into pins or is it a mutation?

I did some shiitake in a SGFC / water tub design once. For cold shock I just removed the bags and soaked them in cold tap water for a few hours in a bucket. Pouring off the water and replacing so it was always the coldest. Then I just misted in the tub everyday.

Nice one! How long after that did you get pins?
My tap water isn’t that cold so I may need to do it again with ice

Thanks, not bad for being some rando internet culture and me not knowing what I was doing. I don't remember how long it took but it wasn't long like a week or two it was fast. If your water is at least like 45-50°f I'd say it's cold enough. Could also just set the bags in your fridge for a few hours maybe.

I would guess they're hunting for just a bit more oxygen but could be something else
