My lions mane couldn't wait for me to poke a hole so it started growing out of the filter patch:

I was trying to see how long oysters will last if I close the bag up after colonization. All of them somehow worked through the folds to the filter

My shiitake is starting to brown now, not sure if I need to cold shock them at some point or just put them into fruiting conditions once they’re completely brown, didn’t do much research before spawning, just thought they needed cold, if I knew they would take so long I would’ve prepped them much earlier, it’ll be summer again before they fruit!

Man yours are a week younger and way further ahead!  Maybe it’s the temperature though, it’s like 76 in the room where my colonizing bags are. Got my little tent thing down to high 60s.

Humidifier ran dry last night and this cluster of blues nearest the door turned brown so hopefully they don’t abort.

Made a 10lb Pioppino bag but it’s got trich on the entire bottom corner, I pulled it off the shelf. to toss it and the whole other side was covered in pins so I sliced it open.

Definitely the temps, it’s winter here and our average is about 18c (64f)

This bag put up some real light Pioppino

It was one of the first bags I made and the water content was too low, also took forever to colonize and pin this tiny cluster.

This one seems to be going well despite the mold on the back

What was the warmest any of you grew pioppino?

Some of mine fruited around 80.

Just pulled this block out a second ago from mid 60s

Ended up just short of a pound between this and the smaller cluster

Pioppino are so pretty. My winters are 70 degrees, and summers are 90. I think i would just be disappointed if i put energy into fruiting pioppino or anything cold or temperate weather here.

I had too much time on my hands, and was pondering methods to do cold weather grows here. The main issue for me would be the energy costs of cooling fresh air, only to discard it to maintain FAE.

At first, i was considering using the outgoing cold air to cool the evaporator fins on the ac providing cooled fresh air, but I still think that would be pretty inefficient to have it running constantly.

I think the most efficient way would be to get a open topped cooling appliance (I have a big cylindrical drink cooler chest), and lay out blocks across the open top of the cooling chamber, and cover with a foam sheet to seal it off. Cut 3" holes in the foam which expose fruiting blocks to the outside air. Cover the exposed tops with a semi permeable humidity dome, and run a fogger to it.

The blocks will stay chilled from the bottom, and the exposed fruiting sections will be exposed to fresh air, and although it will be exposed to warmer air, it the coldness radiating from the block will keep it cool enough.

I have this thing which I have been trying to repurpose. Need to learn how to adjust the thermostat to higher temperatures than the default

Cool idea. Use an inkbird to control the temperature bypassing the built in thermostat.

When you say bucket tek, how so? Pasteurised?

Yep just put the hwfp and bran in the bucket and then dump boiling water in.

A couple days ago I tried doing it with the full 20% bran but the bag got pin mold.

Glad it works with even 10% Bran. I've had nothing but failure with any lipa bucket tek.

Y'all should try straw pellets and cold water. Can't be any easier.

I love blue oyster clusters, they look so... symmetrical

And a follow up to my lions mane growing from a filter patch:

My first shitake's in the pan.
Unclipped didn't look the best cause they were squished in the bag but they taste the goods.
