Those are good but you can go to Walmart if you have one near you,  you can search the google and get to the Walmart website, type in "Kerr wide mouth half pint mason jars" to see if they are available and you can get a 12 pack of those same jars but for like $12.50

Yeah I need to get a batch of those my 6 Oz jars have texturing on the side and it makes it very challenging to figure out what's going on in there just today I thought I saw a black spot but I really can't tell. Might just be a verm spec

Trying to figure out agar work. Don't laugh. Nah u can laugh I have no clue what I'm doin lol. I built a gordotek flowhood n tried that out with this.

This is a piece of unclebens myc I took out n put on agar. How bad does this look? I took 4 transfers off the best looking edge and started some new ones on this past monday. I think when I opened it the last time something slipped in on the edge. It's been visibly clean in there for a while (growing slow i think but not much to compare to) and now there's a little spot of mold or something. Should I try and take any more chunks off the clean edge or chuck it. It's a
APE culture. I chucked the uncle Ben's bags originally cuz they were all mushy on the inside. I figured it was something weird and trashed 4 bags. No weird smell though so I took a chunk of myc in the bag n put it on agar to see what was going on. What u guys think?

Figured as much. 3 out of 3 contaminated plates...huge fail :facepalm3:

Is it safe to take a transfer from the clean part of one of the contaminated plates? Or is even attempting to open one of these plates in a SAB asking for more contam trouble?

Eh donโ€™t fear contam, better to just go in and take a transfer, if more contam shows up just take another transfer, hopefully better. Eventually you will have cleanliness. In my experience itโ€™s been better to just face it head on and adapt to whatever comes up. Ive straight up cut contam out of a plate like I was transferring a wedge and it was fine, didnโ€™t pop back up.

Practice more and you will learn what is and isnโ€™t feasible.

That's what I was thinking. I was surprised to be picking fruits at 23 days. The other tubs were slower, but I was trying different ratio's, so I expected that.

What in manure do wild mushrooms (cubes) grow on ?

Seems to be the thinking is manure provides no benefit and limited nutes, and basically is similar to coir in just retaining moisture... Is it grass seed in the manure that is the spawn?

Is hay or grass the same as spawn in the wild or it is also coir just a moisture substrate?

Source of carbon and nitrogen amongst the other (however not s much as plants) phosphorus and potassium. There's probably  benefit from bacteria that has developed over millions of years l, as well.

And yes moisture retention and the composition/structure similar to the way we use coir.

The mycelium digests the cellulose, that has been partially broken down by the digestive system.

Cubes have been found in many animals manure, cows, horses, elephants, pigs, goats.
The bacteria you can leave in pasteurization is beneficial for fungi.
Grass seed is rye by the way.  Hay is very high nitrogen so it's not the best substance and not best spawn either but could do well in bottle tek. In nature it's not really even the spores on the grass that cows eats it's more hyperknots of cube spores that flow to manure after it comes out.

Trying a pointless project but have no reason not to try even if failure is guaranteed... Trying to "rewild" even if it involves human intervention of harvesting, storage, and re "planting" each year. Trying to follow my cattle herd and establish cubes in zone 6 in my pasture.

Going to try some things but trying to figure out if grain needs to be added or if spores are enough or an LI. Even if it was some clean spawn that was dried out (or fresh) and just G2manure sprinkled in on my daily walks into fresh patties?

Iโ€™ve been reading a lot of your posts and it just feels like youโ€™re making things a lot harder than they need to be.

You should get some liquid culture tested down on agar and then make a really big batch of it.
Then go spray it out in your pastures.

I bet that would work no problem.
Then when you find a really particularly excellent fruit. Clone it. Then make LC from that. Do the same thing every year and youโ€™ll start getting some really good stuff that grows in your field.

Thereโ€™s no reason to add a lot of different spores together every time when youโ€™re trying to get the fruit that is best suited to the environment.

Ok that's definitely interesting, I have a wand sprayer back pack type, used it for some natural fly spray but could wash it out. I wonder if LC would spray through it.

I guess what I was thinking was human selection is for the biggest prettiest fruit... Where as natural selection is for environmental function/survivability. Show cattle needing more pampering than range cattle and have different morphology or phenotypes whatever the term would be.

So I was trying to get as much generic variation into the environment letting nanture test it, and what doesn't work dies and what does work continues on, eventually narrowing on its own.
