Yesterday it wasn’t noticeable, today it is covered.

That in itself should have told you it was contaminated.

Is there anyway to tell when enigma is done growing and ready for harvest? Aside from just watching it.

Anyone have a picture of a fully colonized PF cake still in the jar without condensation?

Probably not, when they get a bit colonized they tend to put a bit of condensation out, it's not an issue though cakes are made on the dry side.

Just lightly mist till you’ve got droplets and bottom water in small amounts spaced apart till it’s hydrated, dry sub will abort pins more than misting, which really won’t, and spraying the walls only makes the walls wet.

Thank you. Just gave it a misting. How can you tell if your substrate is hydrated or needs to be bottom watered? Do you monitor if the surface dries up again too quickly?

Yes

Using a print from my first ever flush of B+, I did a
Scrape N Drip Puck Inoculation onto brf agar and streaked the droplet.

Now I have all this fuzzy stuff.  There was never really a moment when there were distinct colonies, just faintly fuzzy everywhere and then thickening fuzz.  I think the opaque areas are from condensation droplets, but I’ll avoid them on transfer in case it’s bac.  Question:  how do you choose areas to transfer?  Do I pick from the edge, or take the thick clumps of myc?  Should I wait for a pin?

Take a few random transfers , from spores your first plate will be hard to see anything special you're just looking for clean growth

You want to take from the edge of the mycelium and include some non-colonized agar in your wedge but in your case, and what I do personally with my T0 plates, is transfer from the thickest part of myc.

Try to lower your BRF % a little when you make your next batch of plates and the culture will become less fuzzy/opaque, rhizo growth will come out and it'll be easier to choose the colonies you want to transfer from.

Thank you both! And anyone else who offers advice on this

Thoughts on these PE shoeboxes? PE LC from vendor. Shredded BRF cakes to coir. 4 cakes per box. Ratio of 1:1.5 along with a good 1" of toplayer.

First time growing PE, was actually just helping a buddy who last time only grew mold. Lighting was natural and very indirect and sort of shit.

Anyhow, he was happy. Almost 65g dried from the three boxes. They seem a bit thin and never pushed the lids much. Maybe that's normal, my experience with PE is zero. just looking for thoughts if anyone sees anything obvious

They got choked so they stretched to find air, hence the fuzz going all the way up as well. Increase FAE for second flush

That makes sense. he was out of town for a few days after we moved to them to the shoeboxes and I only unlatched the lids for him at the very end. ty sir!

How are you currently determining non-enigma fruits are ready for harvest besides watching it?

When the fins start bruising is an indicator that the fruits are at a mature enough age they can be harvested. I would wait until maybe around 30% or more of the fruits have bruised blue before harvesting because HARVESTING ENIGMA IS A BITCH. Lots of cleaning lots of substrate all over the place. That is the primary reason I don't grow it

Hi,
Question about PE variety. I've always struggle to dry them to some appealing look. I discovered that kicking in high temp from start makes bigger ones kind of boiling in their own juice, and it causes some "leaks" of sticky juice from the inside to the outside tissues  causing brown discoloration. My procedure for now is: temp high for first 2-3 hours (dehydrator won't achieve esthetically danger temp, when is full of wet stuff) then reduce the temp and turning it high again once they are hard outside. It is quite reliable i
and managed to decrease the issue. However still got some brown spots on the very bottom of stipes.
It happens to very healthy looking fruits, so I don't know if it's bacteria related.

Sorry for shitty pics, didn't want to open sealed jars.

And these are example of fruits that came out with brown shit

Would you consider it as any issue?

P.s sorry for imperfect English. I'm a foreigner from far far away.

When I let my fruits fully mature, they sporulate and it covers the tops of most of my caps. I have been seeing some people with similar fruits and their caps are not covered with spores even though i can see exposed gills. Is it that their strains just do not produce nearly as many spores?
