Still on my first attempt and wondering if everything looks OK here? Are those bright white areas in the corners/edges normal or no?

When using indoor lighting, what are the signs I need to look for to ensure I am not burning my substrate? Will the hygrometer I have setup tell me everything I need to know, i.e. temp and humidity? Is it possible the substrate could get hot and I not catch it by hygrometer? Idk, those may be some stupid questions, but I am so close and this is my first fruit.

I use high lumen flood lights specifically because I want to warm up my tent as I grow warm weather exotics during the winter in it.  Plus they're cheap and waterproof.

Anyway even at 90 to 98 relative humidity in the tent caps will dry out and I have to keep the more sensitive species away from the lights, and the less sensitive ones I hand mist the caps to keep them from drying out.

Higher lumens as well as heat will promote evaporation.  Which in theory should give better pin sets regardless of how else the mycelium utilizes light, they utilize evaporation for pinning.  But the extra evaporation does dry out caps, even in high humidity environments.  Casing on my exotics tends to protect the pins though.

Anyway that's my experience.  Hope that gives you some idea of what to be mindful of.

Edit:  likely you are using less hot lights than I am. And if you're not fruiting in a tent you can also just move your light further away to reduce the heat.

I have some Mars Hydro full-spectrum lights from when I was growing hydroponic chili peppers.

Should I be using these full power for the 12:12 light cycle during pinning/fruiting?

They're dimmable so I was wondering if the shoeboxes will benefit from them on full or dial them back a bit to simulate more indirect sunlight?

Could that be a sign that it might be too humid in the fruiting chambers?

Not necessarily, it's totally normal. Just let the prints dry completely before you close them up.
I use a small SS wire riser to keep a little breathing room between the foil and cap.

Mushrooms are roughly 90% water so the cap in an enclosed area is going to make a wet print. You should remove the cap once it’s dropped spores and then let the print dry before folding it up and storing.

WAY overpowered IME.  You can used a standard lightbulb if you wish.

Good idea. I'll make something like that for the next one.

With PF tek. Should I pick all mushrooms or one by one as they mature? And if I should pick all to get a second flush, should I dunk it in water again? For how long? And roll it in vermiculite again?

As Bodi once told me. They are yours to do what you want with. Harvesting clusters all at once is helpful. Dunk overnight and roll.

Just be gentle to not disturb the upcoming pinset.

True. When the next is ready I will pick all mushrooms and dunk and roll again.

Small unopened mushrooms are fine right? Or are they not good for some reason?

Well what's is the average, max, min inside temps.  Like in a basement  that's has central a/c  might get a little chilly if the vent is fully opened.

If its in a multi story room with window facing south(northern hemisphere) even with ac it might be too warm.

but cubes are a more (sub)tropical species so they will still grow at above the recommended Temps.  As well as below.  Its just not Ideal.

Lots of ppl take summer off for many reasons.

Just to take a break and not get burned out. A chance to clean up and declutter (spouse will appreciate).

Like life outside. Will you have other obligations that will interfere with or be interfered by.

Or vacations.

What does " fine" mean?

Like fine to pick? Yeah sure they're your's to do with as pleased

Fine.... as in to leave, sure but will be waterlogged if you dunk. And will fall of if you roll to hard

Finding the balance for your situation is key. Wait as long as practical for the small ones to come of age. But if wait too long the mature will be passed prime.
As well as the next flush will be starting which is also too late to dunk and roll

Totally fine to be harvested, my dude. Consider looking into the punisher tek

Fine potent-wise I mean, if they are worth keeping. This is my first time.

Yes, not sure if its a fact. But is believed to be more potent by weight. Since the resources for mature ones are being put in to spore production.
But with psilocin being a secondary metabolite not really sure. Yes they are still potent.

Over ripe is the degradation point

Congratulations on first of many! :congrats:

Cool. I might try that later. PF tek is pretty easy it seems. I haven't had any contamination yet I think.

I tried PF tek after messing up a lot trying different things with agar. I used the last in a spore syringe so I'm trying to make prints from the mushrooms I got just to keep it going without having to buy another syringe.

I got a wet print from the first mushroom I picked. I will try to make a syringe and do another batch of PF cakes with it.

Just not sure what to do differently to make them grow more before the caps open.

Good to know

Yeah it's really exciting. First time seeing the mycelium and first pins and first picked mushroom was fun.

It took a long time to get here but the mushrooms are growing really fast when they finally show up. It's been 40 days since I inoculated them.

We really cannot predict the weather with zero info homie.  Let us know your average indoor highs in the summer and we can help a lil more.
