Hey. Sorry for the late answer. I grew these in a 130L/130q monotub. Substrate was just wood pellets (80/20 hardwood softwood) that I bucket tek'd. Can't get the 100% hardwood wood pellets in Europe I think because of the glue they'd have to use to keep the things together, so they use the softwood for that. I wouldn't want chemical shit in my substrate anyways lol.

Thank you for the compliments. They are REALLY easy to grow tho. As long as the outer ends are white they keep growing.

Thanks for that! Yeah, I can't seem to find hardwood pellets here either. Only pine wood pellets.
Last night I innoc'ed a bag of sterilized local woodchips. Will see how the reishi likes it :smile:

Here's my pics of the day. Pioppini on unsupplemented straw pellets and fir fuel pellets, with soil-based casing layer. Spawn ratio is around 1:5 (volume, not weight).

Definitely my favorite species to grow in terms of easiness. It's so delicious too :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:

These are about 4 days along from initiating pinning
I don't have any basis to know if these are looking fine or not right now

Congrats, hope you get some tasty mushrooms!

I haven't grown pink oysters. But oysters are usually fruited from slits in the bag, to promote a bouquet of mushrooms and avoid drying the substrate excessively. Probably just have to ride this flush out with the top fruiting, but if you go for a second flush with these, you may consider covering them back up and cutting a diagonal slit or X across the face of each bag.

Oysters also tend to get leggy (long stems, small caps) without enough fresh air. Those don't actually look nearly as leggy as the pearl oysters I tried to grow in tubs. But without a tent, I think it's usually better to fruit them in open air (with frequent misting). Hopefully someone with experience with pinks can say how yours are looking.

Not sure why the one is a couple days ahead of the rest, they were all inoculated at the same time. Left stack is straw pellets, middle is HWFP, right is 50/50 straw/HWFP by weight.

Thank you for the help I hope I get some tasty shrooms out of it too!

Initially I had cut a slit into the side of the bag but I didn't secure the top of the bag down enough. So there was some air getting in there and they started to top fruit. I panicked and just switched to top fruiting them instead :crazy:
Definitely with the next flush I'll try to side fruit them and be more careful

I have them in a tub that's tilted on its side with the lid off so air can get in easier (and hopefully co2 can flow out easier)

I guess we'll see how it goes and adjust on the next flush

Also those oysters that are coming in early look beautiful
I hope one day I can get a bouquet as gorgeous as those

Hi back again with my first time grow
I was out for most of the day so I think they've been getting dried out
I don't have a tent yet so I have to mist them as often as I can
It's not some kind of bacteria is it? (I hope)

Since they're growing so strangely how do I know when these bigger ones are about to be done and ready to pick? It's kind of hard to tell if their caps are already as open as they're going to be or not. I feel like they should have more time but again as a n00b I have no good point of reference

A lot of hard lessons are being learned, but as long as I can get at least one fruiting body to completion I'll be happy

i would pick these now to be honest.  they are drying out. 

in the future, better to keep the block covered and cut a small x for the mushrooms to push through. that way the moisture is more contained.  since the top of the block is exposed, there's more surface area for moisture to escape through. 

in terms of misting, avoid spraying the mushrooms themselves, as this can cause browning. 

also, these looks like they could use more fresh air, they've elevated their gills vertically, meaning they are seeking more air.  you could put holes in your plastic that is sitting over the block to help with that. 

it's certainly a bit of a dance to get the conditions right, so don't let this discourage you.

If I pick the bigger ones off the block do I just leave the smaller ones to try and let them grow or should I just clean the block and let it rest until it's ready to flush again?
I definitely was panicky and sprayed them a good bit directly so ill hold off on it cause it is for sure causing the browning

The fresh air is something I'll have to get used to and figure out what works best
I'll give what you mentioned a shot with putting holes in the plastic sitting over the block

I'm far from discouraged! I want to get it right and have these tasty boys grow well

i would probably pick them all, they are all still edible.

you can then soak the block for 12-24 hours to prep it for another flush.
