100% same so I've been transferring as much as possible and hoping some of them don't look like trash.  It's been working so far. Lots of things thrown away, but also enough successes to get to grain. One of my ugly germ cups sent out a plin, and a few of the weird T1's are doing the same now. I'm hoping to clone them plins and get some good looking plates. But in the meantime some stuff is already to grain to see what grows.

Have you been taking only 1 or 2 transfers? If so, pump those numbers up broski. Make as many plates as possible and help the statistics work in your favor

I only did two and both are just mold it seems like I still have my germ plate so I might just send like 3 or so from each. If anyone would like to chime in and see if any of this is viable.

well.

shit.

at least keep those plates until they turn green or pin. here's one I transferred from weeks ago. The later plates are 'ugly' and this old one is pinning... ???

So these plates trash then? Don’t take anything from them?

If I had the plates to spare I would give these sections a shot for transfers

oh no don't trash until it's green/yellow/red/creamy, or you need a clean plate

i was gonna recommend very different transfer points than mr. buffet so listen to that post for sure. pretty interesting points chosen

is it best to pick closest to the germination point?

If it were me I'd wait for plate pins or mold spores.

Day 6 check up on this ghost plate. Some nasty shit is starting to grow in between the dishes but the slow growth is starting to turn  white now. Waiting on some new dishes to try a different recipe to see if that helps.

Did this come from a healthyish plate? A specific batch of malt agar did this for me not too long ago - beautiful rhizo plate, transfer was super sparse and disorganised under the scope. Switching to PDA with a new bag of agar fixed it. Not the first time I've had that issue either.

Hey 0mar. On the plates that I’ve had bacteria on, the myc is rizo trying to get away from it. Here’s a plate I grew half mold and half myc on if that helps to see a difference.

This is very helpful… my question now is are the plates above just straight mold then? Or is that what a typical germ plate looks like?

I think you just have too much going on to see where anything really starts or ends on that plate. I'd make another couple plates using far less innoculant. If you're using a spore syringe only use a single drop and swipe a Z starting at the drop. If you're using a swab just make the Z. Keep it small and simple. All growth should begin from your streak. If it starts somewhere else, it's not the myc you're looking for. A streak pattern not only lets you know it's from your inoculation but also thins out the spores so you get less clutter.

Here is a plate I just recently worked with. See how you can still see the Z pattern even as it grows out? I'm looking for well organized growth even from the germination plate. With less going on, you can see that more clearly. See the round circular growth I chose when I made my cuts?
