Agreed, I love it.  hehe The original germ plate was nothing but overlay, so I peeled off the overlay topping, and transferred the mycelium underneath, and thankfully the overlay never returned. I did the same for my "regular" Natalensis; both varieties are from Yoshi's collection if anyone's curious. The Deep End is directly from Jik Fib.

Peace & Light,

Seeker604

PS - all plates are T1s.

Hey that's something I've never thought of! Sometimes when I am doing transfers from a certain variety, it's got heavy fluff, and when I cut into it there's clearly another layer underneath. I never thought to scrape back the overlay, resterilize and take a transfer from the under part. Is this something done often?

Alright gang? What are thoughts on this plate? It's a cap from a PLIN grown off an old "Z-Strain" dish which was very much overgrown but had great even Rhizomorphic growth across the plate. This seems to be Tomentose apart from a small patch directly from the cap.

80% of the mycelium you can see grew within 4/5 days, I feel like it has slowed down now.

You can see some minor discolouration on the underside where the cap is sitting. Slight pinkish hue also.

Would love some detailed opinions from others - would you retransfer or what?

Thanks <3

I recently did this but only took the overlay.. It contaminated. Did not realise you were supposed to take the transfer from under overlay. Interesting indeed.

My mentor suggested it for any variety of cubensis or Natalensis that produces heavy overlay. It worked like a charm!

Did you by any chance do a side by side comparison not just on agar, but in a grow too?

This is the first time I’m working with Natalensis; both varieties are on oats at the moment. I’m tracking everything in my LAGM journal linked in my signature.

Whats a PLIN? The plate has some serious contamination. Transfer from 11 or 12 oclock based on the first pic

Tidalwave is not albino are you sure that plate is labeled correctly?

Oh awesome. Thanks for letting me know, actually. The first spores from Nichrome had a low viability, so I’ve been curious how many of the next gen germinated.

Question on everyone's personal technique:

How long do you let a plate go before you take a transfer? Do you take it at the first site of a particular growth morphology that you want? Do you let the plate grow out a certain amount and then make your selection? Do you always transfer a leading edge?

I was checking back on a plate that I took some t1s from about 1 week ago and saw some super ropey rhizo growth that wasn't there when I took my original transfers, so it got me thinking
