No, seriously, guys.. Did I ever tell you about the woman with all the crystal bowls an' shit?
Well, there's this woman, and she's pretty tyte, but anyway, she's got all these crystal bowls, right, and they are for calling in the spirit helpers and then she grabs a pen and draws some crazy doodles and then she mediumizes all the spirits and writes stuff down.
Ok, on top of this, we've got aliens abducting people, doing experiments, cattle getting mutilated having organs removed, and crop circles and all that shit. Doesn't matter whether it's true at this point.
Next we have shamans dancing around fires and all that jazz, that's kinda like the woman with the crystal bowls. On another note, though, we have people sacrificing other people.. cutting their hearts out, wearing their skin.
Then, you have the catholic church, God, blah blah blah
And also, you have all this superscientificalness.
Oh yeah, and zen monks.
Oh, and drugs.. like LSD
So, I feel that I'm unable to connect all these things together. I mean, blah blah blah yeah I know, but seriously, as far as disciplines and methods go, how do you reconcile your own path, say zen meditation, with alien encounters? Are they exclusive, does one need to bother reconciling an "authentic" discipline with another "authentic" one?

I didnt know alien encounters were a discipline? I thought they just happened... to some people...
This is kind of what i think of the use of simple teachings... To me I do not subscribe to some sort of "other path"... I follow my own... and i learn as i go along...
The only thing i end up reconciling is my self. My views... my understandings.
Whether i take information from one source or another... be it some kind of dogmatic insitution or something pumped up like the use of drugs... lets just say... i take what benefits me from it.
not that i plan on creatin some other type of limiting "belief structure" by making some sort of collage out of the pieces... i think that needs to be made clear.

well not hard to connect hallucinogenic drugs with shamanism, they go hand in hand. Maybe the woman with the crystal bowls is actually taking LSD to channel aliens who will teach her shamanic techniques in exchange for sacraficing people to the catholic church?

I didnt know alien encounters were a discipline?
Yeah, that's true.. except some people say through consious effort you can make contact.. so, whatever the case:
I guess the thing is, one chooses a certain way to view things because they can accomplish things with that view, right? For example, scientists probe the universe for understanding as do some meditators, but they use different methods. The scientist isn't going to move towards enlightenment, but he'll make TVs, and the meditator, though he may gain a powerful internal understanding of the universe, he won't be able to innovate new consumer goods..
So.. Say you have pseudo-shamanic tendencies, like all of us here you take mushrooms and "wow." Then you go and train meditation and learn a whole system you're going to use your whole life. Mushrooms have nothing to do with this system, and are maybe frowned upon..
this is an example of these conflicting paradigms I'm talking about. When you pick and choose beliefs from whatever's on the new age bookshelves this isn't really a problem, but when you get bored with this dabbling and decide it's time to go deep.. then suddenly a chasm opens among paths.. anybody experience this?

Good one moonshoe . ---------------------- My mom collects waterford... she likes it.
I think what happens when you get these far out things is when people start to reconcile these different aspects of the different religions or what have you.
This is a planet with 6 billion people on it... and counting... Does it surprise anyone... with all the technology that we have... now that we can share so much information... that these things are really that hard to understand?
They happen yes... and people find ways to reconcile them.
The hard part is working it down the chain... finding out exactly how or why people decide to put these things together.
I have mentioned this before... but I dont think i would like to try and psycho-analyze every person who comes out with a far out idea.
For many people i think and maybe everyone, a life without purpose is not a life at all.
These things give meaning to peoples lives, whether its for one reason or another, they find these things to be personally appealing. Excuse me if this is redundant... but i dont know what else there is to look at here?
So what? Experiencing life is a continual adventure.
What kind of test is this anyway?

What kind of test is this anyway? Oh, it's not a test anymore. And I don't really know what the test was, but the result was about 4 views and a 1 mushroom rating, then I made the second post.
Interesting eh?

Well if i understand you correctly... For me... like i mentioned in the most strange non induced drug experience ever... Thats what i found...
I was tired of all the bullshit everyone else was getting fed... I tried to disconnect myself as much as possible... To reveal something which i found... to be a path of almost infinite paths. Then i guess i found all the paradigms...
They can all hold validity... but all they stand is, is another explanation for another thing in life... They dont really hold any personal significance.
Create your own paradigm right? or just realize thats what youve been doing all along.
I say this because i think thats exactly what everyone does. Especially in religion... how many people have the same reason for believing in god?
To me it seems like its just so broad and so vague that it can get so many people to join... not to mention its historical influence.

My mom said that dad had prophetic crystal balls, dad corrected her, he said they were prosthetic. Either way, that doesn't explain my three brothers and myself.

personally i wouldnt bother worrying about weather your different disciplines 'conflict', the best aproach is to pick, choose and discard at will.
Meditating doesnt conflict with mushrooms anymore than judo conflicts with kung-fu. Use the best of both for a superior style.

Cat, goddammit!! The answer's CAT!!!
As for reconciling my various opinions, beliefs, views, goals and ideals I'd say I manage to avoid be self-contridictory in these things, but I'm not really the best one to judge those things. No one else has ever told me I'm being self-contridictory, though.
