Is Gandalf slow?  Like super slow?

Also, could anyone point me in the right direction if there's a thread that talks about Gandalf growing, lineage, general info?

Yeah it's slow. Slower = more potent though.

It looked more like a Gt to me. I’d say Golden teachers.
The Peb is probably PE6. A penis envy variety.

Those guys that are fully opened can be harvested and dried. Let the smaller ones do their thing and grow some more. Do not mist the grown mushies or pins directly. Lightly mist from high uo and let it fall down like little rain drops. A store bought fine spray mist bottle is a great tool for the job.

Colonization speed questions [Re: BagOfDicks] * 1
    #27934236 -

WBS in quart jars

2 weeks since inoculations  (spore syringe to grain)  Yeah such a sin.. lol..

I have 4 varieties going across 7 jars.
1) Koi Sumui is showing the fastest progress at about 20%
2) Slightly behind are the Z-strain
3) Followed by Thai Lipa Yai at maybe 10 to 12 percent
4) And the one that is a little surprising are the Cambodian Gold (1 jar only has 1 visible colonization, about the size of a 50 cent piece. Almost perfect circle with a very healthy look. The other jar also slow but also very pretty symmetrical circles. They look like the nice clean Agar pictures that many people post but on the the WBS.

I have patience and really it does not bother me to wait many weeks. But a little concerned on the real slow progress of the Cambodians.  Also, I have asked and have read the shaking the jars at some point help. (is this speed only or does it make the mycelium stronger)

I am hoping to be able to move to the next step in about 3 to 4 weeks from now.

Thanks

Shaking mixes the colonized grain into other parts of the jar/bag increasing the inoculation points so it grows faster. This is usually done at 30% colonization.

I can't find it I forgot the name. What's the tek about substrate compaction? Ph9? Psh? Grrr

Anyhow I recently did this compaction tek and it made a massive difference in how it pinned. These came from the same petri dish, a plin clone of a clone. No top layer used in either tub.

Compaction

No Compaction

Yea that's it right there man.. The other day when I was saying I compress and use top layer and that it's much better, and you said you don't and it's just fine, I almost said I'm gonna do a side by side to show you the difference haha but looks like you've already seen for yourself  Only reason I ended up not saying so is well... Its not worth the loss

These still have no top layer though. So my reference to the compaction tek is a little obscure in that sense. I mixed these up, then just compacted them some. I wish I would've used more coir cause these pinsets are thursty. But I didn't wanna get too aggressive cause I'm just stepping outta the problems in my Zero to 50% thread. They're growing myce all over the caps no matter how much FAE I give them lol Also thanks shigmon!

How do they get the myc on the caps, was it there since the pins or did it just appear? Do they have fuzzy feet too?

Thanks,

Edit: Just saw they have a little fuzzy feet...

It may be the camera but from my eyes that looks extremely wet, if it is super wet allow it to get more fae and evaporate then try to get  Ideal surface conditions evaporation will trigger pinning so if its super wet and not evaporating that can be your issue and it can cause bacterial contam if water is pooling on your surface

It looks like it has small water droplets on surface. I did other kit the same exact way, except the other one didn't grow any mycelium on top and was basically not growing at all until 8 day mark when it started pinning.

It just appears on them. It wipes right off even. Might be just a genetic thing. Probably just needs better FAE. I have the lids flipped and (6) 2" holes with one layer mp tape on them. So I dunno they just wanna rage lol

Re: Ask Quick Questions, Get Quick Answers [Re: MushroomEnchanter]

Quick question:

So because I like to make my life apparently harder than it has to be in every way shape or for, I, of course, decided the best way to start out my first ever go at mushies by making liquid cultures of the spores I have. Sounded like a good idea in theory. First batch of six, yeast contam. πŸ€¦πŸΌβ™€οΈ.

Question is if I bought modified lids and they have the little piece that fit into the FAE hole that looks like a UFO and had the micro paper in it do I put those on and then sterilize or so I sterilize and then put them on? I would think you would want to sterilize those as well but I know you don't want to get the paper wet? Sorry this is probably a really stupid question. Thanks guys!!

Hey guys, trying to get these spores going again. Does this look like normal and healthy mycelial growth? Also in the last image, are those strands normal?

Thanks!

Pinning since a week and I have few questions. Are those fuzzy feet, or something else? Are those caps opening or deformed? What should I do? More FAE?

Fuzzy feet which means more FAE. Don’t go the opposite way now and Blast it with a category three hurricane winds. Pluck the one where you can see the gills. The curled up one.

Try a thick top layer next! More water for your fruits as you say is needed. They'll get bigger than that. Compaction and top layer for the win.

Ok I'll do that this week. I think it's safe to up my ratio anyhow now that all my stuff is looking better.
