I was admiring your Cyan finds this morning, got out after work and found some for myself. Thanks for the good luck ha. First time finding Cyans. Also got some Allenii today.

Cyans must have been a second flush because there were dozens of rotten ones all over. R.I.P

Should be a decent spot for next season.

Mushrooms are way better cracker dry, but like you said dealers want that money. When they’re chewy/leathery they’re not nearly as tasty. One time I did buy some cubes that almost tasted like saltine crackers though. They were pretty tasty.

Do you think it'd still be worth it to go looking for new patches?

Get out there sooner than later and I think it could definitely be worth it. A lot of it is timing because different patches emerge at different times. Just gotta be out there hitting the pavement and check those (wood) chips.

Yeah, there’s lots of pins around, but hopefully the weather cooperates. The good thing about this time of year is it’s so variable. The forecast can show barely any rain over the next couple weeks, but that could (and hopefully will) change within a few days.

Driven mad by winter boredom, I went on the hunt once more. I found a bag I left in the bushes  a few days ago 🤦♂️ with some prime specimens I had intended to print, and a decent amount of allenii. Nothing to write home about, except for these albinos. It looks like I do see some spore deposits on the last picture of the albino allenii. I pulled those and saved the stem butts in a separate bag. I’d like to grow them out and see what fruits next year (hopefully) or the year after. I’m curious if it’s going to continue to produce albinos or if it will just be allenii and this was caused by something environmental instead of genetic. Either way, mushrooms are fascinating. Exploring the cosmos is what I was made for. I’m probably done hunting for this season and will now take on learning cultivation. Really excited to get some agar going and get some of this mycelium. ripping through some grain spawn.

Here’s where these little buggers were hanging out. Pretty much dead center under a large shrub. I’m really curious if anyone else has any experience finding albino mushrooms in the wild and what causes it. 🚨 Paging Alan Rockefeller! 🚨

I got a decent little post rain score but didn't take any pics since I was mainly on a recon mission trying to see if any of my good spots are showing signs of second flush.  I found a few new locations which continues to drive into my head the notion that these (cyans) are still all over the place (SF).  I haven't needed to go further than a mile away from my house even though I keep wanting to go hunting in Marin by bicycle.  Maybe this will be the weekend for that.

I'm happy to report that my biggest haul location is definitely in the midst of a major second flush.

Now it sure would be nice if next weeks forecast is wrong.

Found a decent size (Allenii) patch in the east bay.
They’re still out there! Still hoping to find some cyanscens myself this season.

hmmm, those are definitely psilocybe, but don't look like allenii to me
Edit: These actually remind me of P. serbica

Interesting! Could be a good opportunity to learn additional species.

Im in a treatment program right now and I just know my North Bay spots are rotting without me there. Where I'm at no one ever seems to find them besides me. I never take all of them, the spots are huge, and yet not one is ever touched at all.

Well quell your pain knowing they are spreading spores.
Their alkaloids lost are but equivalent to our own ambition and goals never realized but oh so labored over.

Bow to your sensei. Chuck’s Wisdom Sayings. Fear not, the mighty mushrooms will rise once more.
