I too went out and cleaned up my spots. Seems to me the season is basically over.  Lots of drying and dead pins, no new fruits, and no rain for the foreseeable future.
That said, it was the best season I personally had in several years. wound up with close to a half pound of dried fruits.  No complaints at all.

Yeah, I can’t complain, it was a really good season. I collected a lot more than I expected, and found some cyans that I was able to print. I got some really good allenii prints and am getting ready to practice some cultivation. I think it’s mostly winding down, at least the parts of the valley I’ve seen. Mushrooms in general aren’t popping up nearly as much around. I can’t help but scan woodchips wherever I go.

Great season all around, I had so much fun.  Hunting is a treasure hunt and the moment of discovery never got old!  I'm still hopeful the rains will come back and give us a nice finish, but not needed.  I'm going out tomorrow morning and do a quick pass of my favorite spots just to see how those remaining pins I left behind fared.  I'm not expecting much of anything but I gotta do it.

About an hour ago I walked past an apartment building in my neighborhood and saw some guys laying down a bunch of the red scott's nature scapes wood chips.  It's a pretty big plot.  I'm thinking a spore bomb is in order!  I've already spread quite a bit of them but there's more to go and from what I've read cyan spores aren't viable for too long.

checked my spots, and gasp...found cyans.  And pins.  But the weather gods are not with us for now.  The morning dew was pretty extreme today though.

Very nice. Think i'm going to spend the day in the City saturday hunting for some last minute Cyans, then wrap up my season.

Got 4 12oz(size). Mason jars of Allenii hunting my first season and 1/2 a mason jar of cyans.

I suspect somewhere around 2 ounces dry.

Appreciate the update!

Wow, nice work!

I've been hunting for three years now and haven't found a thing. I upped my effort this season, went to at least 10 city parks, numerous county parks, churches, golf courses, countless wood chip spots at retail areas, visited known spots from iNaturalist, but still nada. Found tons of non-active mushrooms, but nothing active. Very frustrating.

You inspired me man.  Went out to check some known spots and lo and behold found a good couple dozed cyanescens. They were definitely drying out, but will still do the trick.

I have lots of time at work these days, so i learned a ton reading through the previous season threads. Im lucky to be pretty close to some of the more popular areas and had good timing getting into things with the weather it seems.

Once i found one it was game on from there because i knew what to look for. If i can find them, You can get them.

Went to check known spots in berkeley, found a few pretty dried out and or damaged.

Went to SF and found 3 patches of Cyans, in the same shape. Managed to pick a few of the better looking ones (none looked good lol) but ive read a few times they are OK to eat after dehydrating.

Hanging the hat up for actives until spring if we get alot of rain. Cheers everyone.

Went and checked a known cyan spot the other day in Palo Alto. It's in a fairly exposed location and tends to fruit late in the season. Looks like it tried to fruit, but then the dry winds stopped it in its tracks. Oh well, got some pretty cool pictures of the dried ones.

Yep, appears the mycelium will not be releasing any more soldiers to  battle :mushroom2: this season in the valley.  Not many non-active mushrooms fruiting at all either.  2021-2022 was fun while it lasted. Hopefully we’ll get into a better overall weather pattern and have great harvests for many seasons to come.

Hi all. So that frost about two weeks ago really did a number on the patches of pins I had left to mature the week previous. I think the season is definitely coming to an end for me. I might go out once more after whatever rain we get at the end of the month. Maybe find a straggler or two. If that even happens. Just wanted to share some pics of the frozen patches. I’m also wondering if leaving the fruit to complete its life cycle will help the patch come back stronger next year?? Here are some pics of a couple wood chip beds I’ve made from stem butts that will hopefully fruit in the next couple seasons.… and a chocolate bar I made🤪
I’m very grateful for this community and hope everyone has a great 2022!!

Sweet chocolate bar. I definitely won’t be heading back out for more hunting. I got more than enough allenii to last several seasons (didn’t even go through half of what I collected last year). I found a small patch of cyans and was graciously sent a cyan print and some stem butts by an awesome member on here. I got two azzy prints as well, and am turning my attention towards cultivation now. This site is very helpful indeed and I greatly appreciate many of the long time member’s assistance and help.

Im from the east coast. Thinking of traveling to CA to visit some family. What would be the best part of the state to find some woodlovers. Don’t need exact locations or anything just looking to get pointed in the right direction. Appreciate all feedback.

December is probably best bet. But this year with the early rain and cold temps our season kicked off early.
Learn Psilocybe cyanescens and P. allenii they are the most common in CA

SF/Bay area is a good bet, I hunted for my first season this yearr and found both Allenii and Cyans. Used previous years threads for pointers on locations etc. Lots of good info archived in there.

My biggest Allenii of the season. Just over 1.9 grams absolutely cracker dry (keep these in a jar with desiccant packs).
