Only a few of my patches have shown growth so far. Irrigation and shaded micro-climates are key until we get more rain and lower temps. Woodchip planters that border along lawns usually catch some overspray from sprinklers. Good luck out there!

There's something about the domed cap that makes them more appealing than cyans (to me).

Well I drove around a bit tadday even tho it's clearly way too warm yet here in the central valley.
I knew I won't find much but at the same time I don't like to miss flushes either - because much
more people are out now hunting than even a few years ago. There is a patch I know for a couple of years
that flushes a few weeks before the rest of them. (microclimate - I guess)
It always produces a handful of tiny little guys and last year I caught them at the same stage as today:

Last year I left them there thinking "let them grow bigger". I looked again 3 days later, and the whole patch
was cleared by someone else. I left them there today as well.

I had the first pins in my cultivated buckets north of SF several days ago but they havnt fully formed yet. I got about 18 inches of rain. Near Mount Tam. I also found the first fruit of the season in SF 1 week ago. It was cyanescens. Right near the ocean.

Maybe you can guess how stupid I felt ripping those pins out while transplanting a new bucket. One of them is still growing.

WOW look at that first picture, I can't believe such a fruiting body is coming out of such little mycelium.  That's insane!

I transplanted a patch last year into my backyard, but it was sooo god damn dry this summer I don't know if I watered it enough, generally I watered it once a week, but sometimes I was away from home and it went maybe 2 weeks or so without getting watered.  I hope to see some fruits this year, mostly just because I want them to drop spores so they keep producing year after year.  I already have a spot I know I can get fresh ones, and I only need them for microdosing, so I don't need much at all.

It's been raining here, but it hasn't gotten that cold yet at all.  Hopefully it's a fruitful season!

Also amazing finds everyone, bravo.

Hey yall, just checked the patch that I had growing from last year from transplanted p. alleni woodchips/mycelium.  Looks like after these recent rain storms things really have started kicking off great!  I can see the mycelium is starting to explode and grow everywhere, as well as these little white fuzzy areas are starting to pop up.. I've never cultivated an outdoor patch before, so I don't know what the growth stages are supposed to look like.  But it seems that the mycelium is starting to aggressively grow right now and some little areas look like they are about to sprout fruits hopefully!  One can only hope!

I'll check back in two or three days and see if there are any fruits and see how the mycelium is doing, considering it's the beginning of the season, I think I may get some good fruits this year!

One question, does this look like p. alleni mycelium on the last two?  And the fuzzy bits on the other pictures, are those fruiting bodies about to form or potential cobweb mold?  I spread a ton of active mycelium in this area, sorry Im a total noob at this!

Oh wow just look at that aggressive colonization in the last picture!! Holy macaroni!
Reading your previous post, I was gonna say: You probably did yourself a favor by skipping on the watering in the heat! Allenii, when dormant in the summer, doesn't require any water. Sometimes watering in the heat invites green mold and other fungi that eats up allenii for breakfast. Excited to see your first fruits man! :toast:

Yikes... it definitely stayed pretty dry the entire summer, even when I watered it only the top layer of mulch would get wet, the chips the mycelium was on always stayed dry.  I definitely watered it like 2-3 times a month though.

I definitely hope it goes well!  The mycelium looked like all the pictures I had seen online in terms of stuff I didnt take pictures of.  Fingers crossed, the goal is to get this patch really covered and eventually seed other patches with it.

Thanks for any and all responses!

Oh well that fruit was out of a whole bucket, but you would be amazed that this and the others actually continued growing! Over a week since I pulled it and it's flattening out. I put it in a new bin of chips and there is mycelium like an inch out in all points.

Let me know if it's wrong to discuss this cultivation in this thread. Third photo is the actual mushroom from first post, in a new bin! 4th photo is the bin it camefrom, which has more out the bottom.
Oh and BTW I was putting ice on the bins ever night for a week before the pins, and Temps were 48 degrees at night.

I've gone out hunting and found nothing so far, wondering if this is a bad year for me.

Nice work Juxter

First time out looking this season. Stumbled across a really nice, mature cluster which led to a new spot that produced a great haul. Everything seemed perfectly ready and hadn't been picked over.

Oooo yall are making me think of going to the mother patch I found last year.. maybe I should today.

Quick check on the transplant patch, no fruits yet, but mycelium is exploding everywhere.  Each little place I turn a little casing woodchip up to check on it I stop because mycelium is attached to it, as well I can see the starter chips flourishing and growing onto all the chips around them, and since I know that is alleni mycelium, I have to safely assume it will result in alleni fruits.  A few areas are doing exceedingly well, yet I just don't think it's gotten cold enough where I live (north bay area) for them to start fruiting.  Last year it wasn't until December it got cold enough, and since its been the hottest year on record in CA in 2021, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't start fruiting until Mid to Late December.

But that's whatever, just more time for the mycelium to keep growing, right?  I've also been going through the patch and looking for any green mold, only found a little bit in 2-3 small isolated areas, and used a glove and tossed that shit away!  Gonna have to do that every so often to make sure it isn't an issue, my poor alleni mycelium, I can't fail it!

Other then checking for any bad signs of other mold, I'll only be checking for fruits once a week.  I've noticed some random mushrooms started fruiting on the edge of my patch, not on the woodchips, but close to them.  I was super excited at first seeing the first pin!  But then I was like nope, that's not it... so I tossed the imposters (sorry little guys) because they were growing right next to starter chips that had mycelium spreading around it, no competition here.

fingers crossed - I kinda fucked up this patch by making it to large of sq ft and not quite deep enough, should've done half the square footage and double the depth.  Oh well, lesson learned, but I think I'll get some fruits this year in enough places where if they drop the spores down everywhere or I make a spore slurpie and spread it around, I can add some more chips on top at the end of the season and then next year it'll be perfect.

Left all these guys plus a lot more (actually didn’t harvest any today) hopefully they are there when I return. Last year this spot had huge fruit, judging by the fat stems they are headed that way again!

Nice finds everyone cool to see some big flushes, most my spots are still not showing signs,  but excited that some activities are coming out.
