People aren’t dying from omicron. They are dying from delta. 1500 per day.

You guys have been cheering on a variant that doesn’t respond to the vaccine, not understanding that if you don’t have cross immunity you have a separate disease. Now we have two pandemics. Omicron and the rest of covid

Every time the idea of covid camps comes up in the thread, you bring up history to defend the idea of it, but it's like you've never read any chapter in a history book where the people in charge took advantage of others, like there's never been a situation where the government controlled what the news reported.

You say I'm brainwashed I think it's the other way around.  :shrug:

I doubt you’ve read anything about these things, or you wouldn’t be comparing death camps to 14 day quarantine centers. You should come down to DC and I’ll take you to the Holocaust museum. They usually have volunteers there who were prisoners in nazi camps. You can discuss with them the comparison between dachau and the Australian quarantine program. I’m sure that will go over really well.

I’ve been to dachau, and it isn’t anything like what’s happening in Australia.

What's the point of expending all of this emotional energy in this argument?

There have been numerous scientific studies showing that when confronted with evidence contrary to one's beliefs the natural reaction of a human being isn't to change their mind. It's to double down on their beliefs.

The anti-vax side isn't going to change their mind unless a bunch of their close friends either convince them to get the vaccine or their friends and family members pass away because they weren't vaccinated. Since this disease is just barely deadly enough that only a small number of anti-vaxxers will have this happen to them, it's unlikely to change anyone's minds.

The vax side isn't going to change their mind that the vaccines are good and the medical studies that have been done on them meets their risk tolerance to prevent COVID.

It just seems like a total waste of time to keep going back and forth for hours and days and for what? The same talking points are going to be repeated, the same ad-hominems are going to come out. We live in an age where numbers can literally be manipulated to fit ANY narrative.

For the record, I'm pro-vaccine, boostered, think COVID is pretty bad but not an existential threat to society and am just sad at the state of affairs. This division is reflective of a much deeper rift running through society that is bigger than COVID and that frightens me more than COVID iteslf.

Unlike school vaccine mandates in which parents are subject to fines for non compliance, there nothing like that for the covid vaccines. The covid vaccines mandates simply limit the places where the unvaccinated can be.

It seems like most people are like my significant other, they LOVE to argue. I used to hate it but now with years of training it has gotten easier. They get off on this shit. That's why I just smile and tell them I love them <3
