I think it's really weird that the thing making you call 1984 is a free vaccine, and not like, income inequality or surveillance or the gig-ification of labor.
It is kinda like Brave New World, except it's people self-selecting to be the lower class black shirts(?) with limited choices and worse health.

If covid happened in 1918 it would have been worse than the flu. NONE of the medical technologies used to keep covid patients alive existed in 1918. No ventilators. No ECMO. No way to measure oxygen saturation. No antivirals. No vaccine. No antibiotics for opportunistic infections. No mass availability of oxygen for breathing supplementation itself would triple the current death toll.

As I've said time and time again, it's not the vaccine, it's the mandates. Is it really so hard to empathize with those of us here that feel that way?

I can absolutely empathize with the pro-vax side, at least, to the point where they say hateful things about anyone that chooses not to get it.

I make the 1984 comparison because that's the way the whole world is going, and has been since long before COVID.

The additional push for mandates simply adds a lot more weight to the fact that is our trajectory, IMO.

I'm very surprised no one has yet mentioned this yet. The numbers are staggering by comparison. About one in three people caught the last pandemic, why did we not see the same freedoms encroached upon after that?

I think we're too numerous now, too moronic, too liable to being controlled, and of course; internet.

I can't understand why COVID is handled like it is, literally.

Was just talking to my neighbor who works at the pentagon. They are getting paranoid about potential for having half the military sick at the same time. They aren’t allowing anyone in the building who doesn’t work there. All the areas where people socialize like the food court have been closed. Same thing is happening with the police and firefighters. Something like 20% of the police around here are out because they are sick or quarantining.

There was no vaccine for the 1918 flu. They thought it was caused by bacteria, but if there was one it almost certainly would hand been mandatory for everyone. They didn’t fuck around with snowflakes back then. If you didn’t get vaccinated you were fined or imprisonned.

I cannot. Societies are full of mandates. It's been that way for thousands of years. Some have more than others. Some of them are unwarranted and worthy of becoming upset. This mandate is not. Public health orders for mandatory vaccination used to be fairly common in the US. And it wasn’t this half assed mandates for restaurants or workplaces. You weren’t allowed in public if you weren’t vaccinated and if you were caught you were fined or put in jail until you complied.
