There's no changing their minds. I have a good friend who in EVERY OTHER WAY is an intelligent, thoughtful, loyal, funny, rational human being. I'm going to get my booster today, but I'm getting an antibody test beforehand just out of curiosity.


Some of the antibody tests do not test for the same antibodies you get with the vaccine. They are designed to detect previous infection only

So my antibody test was just a positive/negative, I was hoping it would show levels or something. But I have antibodies still. My wife got her booster yesterday, I'm getting mine today. I will update with how shitty I feel...I will likely be one of the ones that feels pretty meh. My first and second shots I felt bad for a couple days.

My wife works in healthcare and has interactions with a lot of people, it's mostly just for peace of mind and to cover all the bases I can cover.

I'm not gonna lie though, I seriously considered not getting it. I don't wanna feel meh

Update: I bitched out. I am in the middle of a home reno where we're doing everything ourselves and I just straight up don't want to or have the time to feel shitty for a couple days. Imma wait another 2 months until it's 8 months since shot 2 which is what you're supposed to do anyway.

Sure. The rational thing to do when the patient population in question is unlikely to survive infection with or without treatment. Doctors and nurses have gotten pretty good at figuring out who can be saved and who can't early in the treatment process because we now have experience to work with. The ethical thing to do for people who can't have their lives saved is to reduce the suffering of their death as much as possible

Yeah I was planning to get it this Monday but I didn't honestly because I was just so tired from working Fri to Sunday d that I didn't feel like going anywhere. I don't want to get it today cuz I have work again tomorrow and the next day.

The virus has other proteins besides the spike protein the vaccine targets. The other proteins are not really accessible to the immune system when the virus is intact because they are blocked by the spike protein, but when a cell that is infected bursts, many unassembled parts of the virus are released and the immune system will make antibodies for them.

Most of the antibody tests will come back positive for the vaccine, but there are some that are specific to the actual infection.

How do you personally think they compare as far as overall effectiveness?

If the vaccine antibodies only target the spike protein, could that be a reason for "breakthrough infections"?
