Pregnancy and LSD

Hey so uh, I am currently pregnant and I heard that LSD was designed to help with pregnancy issues or complications while carrying to term? From what I heard it was made in an experimental search for pregnancy drugs and the chemical is supposed to help. Anybody heard anything on this?

Albert Hoffman was trying to find a drug to help with labor. If I were pregnant I'd be iffy on using any drugs tbh

I think this is what I've heard,and may be the only risk from lsd I can think of,when taking appropriate doses

Was that the intent? To find something similar to oxytocin?

I was under the impression that they hoped it would reduce mortality related to bleeding during/after labor, by constricting the blood vessels?

now that you mention it though LSD does seem to increase the strength of contraction in the sex organs, whether male or female.

Very earlier studies appear to indicate chromosomal damage. Although the individuals do not seem to be affected. Howwver, there is increased incidence of miscarriage in rat experiments.

with stuff like post partum hemorrhage (more than half a liter of blood lost after placenta removal) you start off with oxytocin and making sure all of the placenta came out but that doesn't always work, and if it doesn't you have to get blood transfusion and vasoconstrictors going. when there is extensive blood loss obviously the pressure inside your blood vessels drops. the two primary ways to bring it back up are to shove more fluids/blood in and to constrict the blood vessels

He was looking for ergot derivatives of ergot that weren’t so toxic. Ergot poisoning causes spontaneous miscarriage.

Thankfully I haven’t and I don’t plan to. Still in the first trimester and plan or carrying to full term! I’m also high risk so I’m doing everything I can and doing lots of research!

Looks like Post apart Hemorrhage is something I also gotta be worried about. Geeze, this is a lot to take in 😅

Can I ask how it works? Why does the miscarriage happen? Does anyone have the science why this happens? Thanks.

If it is the same as oxytocin then it increases the concentration of calcium inside the muscles of the uterus which makes them contract. Uterine contraction is what results in delivery. The contraction of the uterus is good when you are at term and want to have a baby. If your fetus is not ready to be delivered then contracting the uterus until it is expelled is a miscarriage. Even if not expelled, contractions that are too strong and frequent interfere with the delivery of blood to the fetus through the placenta which can damsge or kill the fetus
