Thanks Ralphster, and Mcman, the ingredients were found by my friend(believe it or not we are two different people..cool huh) anyways she just went to the garden stores. The ones that cater to gardening ONLY, not the walmart garden center or the K-mart garden center. The ingredients are fairly common to garden centers. If they cant get it usually they can order it for you. The best ones are the "mom" and "pop" stores. The funny part is trying to get the bales of wheat straw in a little two door car, Picture two blondes riding down the road in a little black sentra with two bales of wheat straw at a time sticking halfway out the trunk. It took four trips to get everything. LOL One other way to find the ingredients McMan is to check out gardening shops on line.

Beautiful cap you've got there....and the holder doesn't look too bad either :} Was the "blu" sweater intentional or just a co-ink-e-dink?? All the compost stuff mentioned is readily available, but it would be hard to get much of it in small quantities. Also...to get a good compost action going you need a certain amount of mass to hold in heat and get things cooking [literally]. While you can make darn good compost in your garage with a cheap "do-it-yourself" 55gal drum composter...its easier to do outside on a concrete pad. Everyhing mentioned is also pretty darn cheap. If you've got the will and the room, you can make killer compost for pennies per pound.

Yes it is from that compost. She kept getting emails wanting her to "prove" it grows mushrooms . They keep emailing wanting pictures. Which is very understandable. She is selling it for 2 dollars a pound.

I was thinking, with a substrate that big, how in the hell do you inoculate the spores? I'm still a newbie otherwise, and this is beyond me

Firewolf, you grow your cakes out as normal then break them up and mix them into your compost. To use the mass recipie, break it down from 10;s to 1;s place as a value. For example" 1 bale of wheat straw 7pounds horse manure 5 pounds chicken manure 5 pounds cow manure 2 pounds rice straw 5 pounds cottonseedmeal 2 pounds bloodmeal 8 pounds gypsum 1 cup superphosphate( too much of this will cause you to lose yields, but a little increases yields) 2 pounds sulfate of potash 1 pint of activators. If thats not small enough, one way to be bare bones but effective would be to pick one carbohydrate source and one nitrogen source. Then mix in 1 pound of gypsum, 1/4 cup super phosphate, 2 ounces of sulfate of poatash. It wold look like for example: 1 pound chicken manure, 1/2 bale wheat straw 1 pound gypsum 1/4 cup superphosphate 2 ounces of sulfate of potash and enough water to make it moist not soggy.

I don't think bluhoney's tryin to make alot of money off this compost, I think some people should give it a try. But of course two chics growing shrooms is probably every guy on this boards fantasy. Cmon, what's gonna be the website's name Compost chicks, Dung Sisters, JK. I think it's great, and a good deal for people that don't have the time or resources to make their own. Good luck Blue Honey and Friend!
