I am actually a big burly guy (6' 220lb. of muscle) named Richard. Everyone thinks im some sicko until they see me. Then they get to know me and realize they were right all along. But to answer your question Dick is not a verb in the name. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT WHEN ITS FINISHED, I'm gonna make one over Xmas break, and probably put together an HTML file at the same time on angelfire with all the credit going to you.

Wow, I went to Wal mart a few weeks ago and got the exact same shelf along with the 4 mil plastic sheeting. I covered the shelf with plastic and sealed it with duct tape. I have a cool mist into a garden hose which runs into a 2 way splitter and one tube goes into the top and another in the bottom.
Only problem is opening and closing the flap. I used duct tape at first but then it tore the plastic, so I put a layer of duct tape down on the plastic and then put the sealing layer of duct tape on that tape so it wouldnt tear the plastic. But this can be a pain especially when opening it every day or two. What do you use to get in and out?

LOL, what kind of shit is that? "You must have lots of free time, no offense" ha ha. That's like saying "Can I tell you something, but you have to promise not to get mad".

"Ok, but that's a hard thing to promise.."

" I fucked your sister."

Grrrrrrrrrrrr....

Don't say something stupid like that and cover your ass with "no offense".

Yeah, Maybe I'm, a little cranky tonight. Maybe it's because I can't get any fucking painkillers because of the pathetic scheduled society we live in even though my wisdom teeth are growing into my jawbone and I can't open my mouth...

...or maybe my coolmist ran out of water because my timer broke and dried out/wrecked all my tins.

Who knows? Don't mean to pick on you gaastra, I think I just needed to vent. But really man, think before you open your mouth. My friends entire setup took about two hours to build and two hours to brainstorm. He made it because he DIDN"T have time to fan a bunch of cake tins four times a day every day. Believe it or not, he has other things to do besides for babysitting cake tins full of fungus. Thanks for your 2 cents though, have a nice fucking night.

I''ll update this thread soon with some more pictures since I obviously have nothing better to do....

Back again ..... not much to report though. Most of my casings dried out so I deep scratched 'em. Nothing left to do but wait it out...grrrrrrrr.

After getting the terrarium operational I have noticed some little quirks. When the coolmist kicks on from the timer, it inflates like a huge plastic pillow. Observe pic 1

Ignore the dates, my camera is fucked up...

When the exhaust fan kicks on, it sucks all the plastic sheeting in, so it is obviously evacuating all the terrariums air.

It's kinda hard to tell from the pics, but the difference is drastic.

Even though most of my casing dried out, two BRF ones are doing great. All my ryes casings are stalled. Any ideas why? The BRF seem to love the conditions in the terrarium, as I got a nice pinset from them even though they were stressed majorly. Here is a pic..

One thing I have noticed with this project is that the coolmist cannot produce anything over 72% humidity if left running constantly. It seems that it works best when cycled on about 6 times a day. So much for 1-3 air exchanges per hour, it kills humidity. Right now I have it set so that the HEPA, cool mist and exhaust fan turn on at the same time, about 6 times a day. It seems to be working for now.

Any thoughts or comments?

Hey brugman....actually, these could be either EQ, Puerto Ricans or Treasure Coast. Like a Dumbass I mixed up my casings without labeling them. I am pretty sure they are EQ though.

BTW, this setup really doesn't take that much time/space/money to get going. At first the initial investment seems large, but I am sure it will pay for itself real quick :).

This sounds suspiciously like an idea that I can combine with my creation, for the future setup (Current is 36"x18"x48", future is 96"x18"x72") But my setup is currently @ $63 without hepa filter, and the new one is gonna be a wee bit more (about 400 after tax, sturdier shelving unit, expandable, galvanized stainless steel instead of wood / plastic, and custom creation)

Current setup:

Wooden shelving unit from Canadian Tire: $30.
4 shelves, 60"x36"x18" total assembled
3 usable shelves, top unusable (Except outside shelf)

0.35 mm, 10'x25' plastic dropsheet, Black: $8
Tarped around 4 sides and the top, one side 2x
Bottom is open
Finishing nails / tacks holding into place
Wraps around, one side twice (Will understand in a few moments)

Zipper: $10
On front of tarp, there is a 'zipper' you can get at some paint / home repair stores. This zipper has strong adhesive on one side. You put it where the plastic is one layer thick, run the length (Floor to top while the zipper is closed and the adhesive is exposed), and flatten it against the plastic dropsheet. Then open the zipper, and cut open the insides (Including single layer of the dropsheet)... Outter layer turns into a "Shield" layer... I don't tape it down, as I don't find I need to (At least I don't THINK so)

Lighting: $15
IKEA has these neat little halogen bulbs, normally under kitchen cabinets or inside of glass cabinets / thingies, bulbs attach on the underside of a shelf / whatever... 2 bulb assemblies to the set...

Air exchange:
HEPA filter, Walmart, 40, into the system at the top. Dryer piping to the top of the system. It's plugged into a timer, 15 min on, 2 hour off, repeat constantly throughout the day / night. Light is attached to a 4on, 20off timer.

Topmost (usable) shelf is 6" from top of system, 1 tray of perlite, 2 old shirts / blankets underneath to catch / disperse dripping water.

Air incoming on top, outgoing on bottom.. bottom of system is directly on the floor, store jars there in darkened area (no light)

I'd like suggestions on how to improve this... I'm going to work on creating a larger area (96"wide, 18" deep, 72" tall), and hopefully mass-producing...

Back again... This time with bad news. FOAF had some recent attacks of paranoia (they ARE out to get him dammit!). Some really close calls before the terrarium was finished (read: Not stealth) and recent events with other drug related forums has him doubting his safety and ditching his projects. What a sad society we live in, but alas....it is all he has. What a compromise life is.

Anyway, last I knew he had switched to an ultrasonic humidifier because the cool mist was drying the hell out of the casings. The problem reversed so he played with timer settings until a comfortable level was reached. This idea turned out to be quite self-suffcient. He left home two days and came back to perfect conditions, however there was a slight puddle on the bottom of the "unit". Perhaps a drain tube is in order.

Here are some pics..don't make fun of the pathetic casings. They were an after thought to test the terrarium. They seem to like it though...

The last three on the right were an experiment with forced overlay and deep scratching. Results were promising until big brother came into the picture and he freaked and tossed 'em. What a waste of time :(

Right now, my cat is in the process of building a similar setup, but instead of plastic sheeting, she bought some lucite acrylic sheets to silicon to the shelves, along with hinges and weatherstripping to make a airtight door. It seems like it will be more stable and won't flap or suck in when the fan or humidifier comes on. As soon as my cat is finished building it, I'll post the picks for her(she's not good with keyboards).

He had some calls that were WAY too fucking close for comfort, so he overreacted. Better to be safe than sorry. I am sure he will make sure his terrarium doesn't go to waste though

He has other friends who might visit through proxies and different usernames in the future, who knows?

hey, wassup?? i have the exact same grow room being created right now. check my user posts for "grow room idea"
i was thinking of adding some filter patches to the sides of mine. but mine is 21.5 cubic feet of grow space. the damn digital humidity gauage (same as the one you have in the picture doesn't read above 80 or so...damn thing just says HI.
i bought a martha stewart off season portable wardrobe closet, which comes with a plastic slip cover and zips up the front. it totally encloses the shelf system and i just zip and unzip. (itook the plastic cover out of the box and returned it to the store for a refund so it was free. hell i give wally world enough money i just consider it a customer appreciation gift) who thought martha stewarts tight ass would ever be contributing to the cultivation of our wonderful freinds!!!

Mr. Pink:
Just a thouhgt. Do you need an exhaust fan? It seems that that might be drying out your terrarium. Why not just have the hole stuffed with poly fill? It seems that the heavy CO2 would be pushed out when the air/humidifier kicked on.

so how's everything going Mr. Pink? are you still in bussiness with this project or has it been retired totally?
I'm interested to know how it came along and what improvements you've made since last updating us...i'm most likely going to be attempting this very same style of growing chamber.
