Yes. Because government is always making things cheaper.

Name a socialist society that was (or is) successful. And no, the Scandinavian countries are not socialist. They are giant welfare states supported by the excess wealth generated by capitalism. Socialism (or any other economic system) does not generate excess wealth. No other system has ever lifted any significant number of people out of poverty.

The whole developed world limits elective abortion to no more than 22 weeks. Should we get with the program?

We have the most liberal immigration laws in the world. Should we get with the program? Get rid of birthright citizenship?

We're better off than the rest of the world. And please don't list off a bunch of leftist stuff we don't have as evidence that we aren't.

Our poverty line for a family of four is more than the average income of all but 30 countries. According to world poverty measures, we have zero poverty (consume less than $1.90 a day of stuff - food, clothes, shelter, etc).


Where can I begin? Nobody uses average income as a measure because the distribution is highly skewed.

Apparently Canada isn't part of the developed world because they allow abortion at every stage of pregnancy for any reason. I don't have time to list the others right now, but if you doubt they are out there I'll find the time.

If Scandinavian countries are not socialist than the U.S. is not capitalist. Let's pretend we have real world definitions of socialism and capitalism and not the ones from freshmen year Poli Sci 101. Political discourse has moved on from Karl Marx's definition of socialism developed in the 1840's. 

You seem to be in denial about all the quality of life measures that show that the U.S. is 2nd or 3rd rate in many areas, but those numbers are real. Reciting platitudes like we're the best in the world means you've been conned by American propaganda, or you are rich and the system is best for you. If you believe it because you think you will be rich in the future, the odds are overwhelming that you've been conned.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Denmark was not interested in selling it, but they just need to hear an offer they can't refuse. I'm thinking it will be a three way trade. Russia gets Alaska. We get Greenland, and Denmark gets a territory to be named later, probably some place we haven't even invaded yet. It would be so refreshing to just go over a win a war, which we can do. Then just give it away so we don't get bogged down in that nation building we are so bad at.

College only has around a 30% success rate. Unless you have a guaranteed job waiting for you then going to college is actually kind of stupid.

That girl looks like my xgf... Who I am trying to get back together with, as we speak... Since I moved back to Michigan, and broke up with my lady. I haven't seen her in a good while though. I hope she still looks like that lmao!

I went to college for a 2 year degree in pipe welding. It's served me pretty good so far. I also went for 4 years to be a pilot, but I had to drop out of that program. Flight hours just got too expensive. Hope to pick it back up again.

Both professions I chose kick ass, and both of them have lots of job prospects. College is only stupid for people who don't make informed decisions going into it. As for the aviation thing, I was a young kid, excited to fly airplanes... I ignored my instincts (financially), and yes, I made some miscalculations.

In the end, though, I think education is always a positive, and I don't regret one minute of my 6 years.

I will say that I encourage young people to go into the trades whenever possible, though.

But, I mean, states will still enforce the law. It just can’t change on day 1, which is fine.
I’m fine with some pandering too - that’s politics for you - but I hope he’s careful enough to STAY the “bigger man” of the election.
