Mushboy, thank you for this. I've been waiting on a clean plate to try your LC tek. I would also like to incorporate the Josey poke, when I get some syringes.

Would this work as is, or do you recommend more transfers?

Any one slurried a pitri and used it to start an lc? I've done it with pan jams, AA+ and Red Down Under. Lc is almost full strength in a few days. I was making li to inoculate jars when I ran out of grain jars to pour to. Had a sterilized lc ready to go so I went with it, poured the last bits in sterile grain water with a mag stir-bar.

Ya that's cool too but looks like it takes days. I just sterilize a blender jar with water and blend a colonized agar. Ready on the spot. I'm not sure how often a contam sneaks past yet but each one so far has been good. I've had a contam here or there but maybe 1/8 gallons. Kinda why I'm wondering if anyone else has been doing this for very long.

So when I pour agar it is warm, when I Inoculate this LC I am doing it when it's at room temp. I think It's sucking air in as soon as i crack the lid. Should I inoculate when it's a little warmer than room temp to avoid this suckback? What about when I go to use it? What am i not getting about how to avoid the pressure differential from sealing when hot and opening when cool?

Perhaps I just need to raise the temperature of the room when I go to inoculate and also when i pour.

I’m also wondering about that.

I’ve been cracking it open with a coffee filter wrapped around it until the vacuum stops just in case.

Im using a full SFD under the metal lid with 2 paper punch holes for GE. Any vacuum I get from cooling equalized and the SFD lifts up alot easier than the sticky underside of the metal disk. I have a Melmak LC thats about ready to go to grain. We'll see how it goes.

Oh see mine is in a media bottle. Never thought about putting tyvek or something under the lid.

How fast did the melmak grow in the lc? I’m pouring my toc today and might do melmak after, finally got some clean growth on plates.

Its 2% LME that I put in with a batch of oats. By the color of it after PC i'm thinking an hour and 45 minutes was too much but suprisingly it colonized really well in a week. Its only 60ml or so inoculated with a 1/8" square of agar. Tends to froth after a magnetic stir but its nice and clear considering how dark the broth was. The myc had a field day chewing on the sediment. Now its just nice fluffy globs. I'll try and get a pic before I use it.

I take lc out while hot, let it cool then tighten. Leaving the foil on the whole time. I never leave things to cool in the pc.

I made an Atlanta#7 LC and it looks a bit ropey,  mycelium has grown on the jar and I think rocks are forming in there.  I need to test it

This turned into an complete banger and I got 1.5 oz dry from the first flush which is my best ever from a shoebox.  It was only 1 quart and the sub looks fresh and loaded still, crazy how that happens sometimes... 

Ive made 4 more jars with it and tossed it before this happened.  It all happened in 24 hours
