Remember, this is "freedom"...
A 53-page report not intended for public release outlines what's being termed as the "sadistic, blatant, and wanton criminal abuses" of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. troops at the Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad.
The internal report, obtained by The New Yorker magazine, was written by Major General Antonio M. Taguba and includes, according to the publication, documented abuse between October and December of 2003 such as:
Breaking chemical lights and pouring the phosphoric liquid on detainees; pouring cold water on naked detainees; beating detainees with a broom handle and a chair; threatening male detainees with rape; allowing a military police guard to stitch the wound of a detainee who was injured after being slammed against the wall in his cell; sodomizing a detainee with a chemical light and perhaps a broom stick, and using military working dogs to frighten and intimidate detainees with threats of attack, and in one instance actually biting a detainee.

Can't remember if "We will rape you with a broomstick" was among Bush's pre-invasion promises to the Iraqi people...

Under the terrible stresses of war, there are some in every country who commit atrocities. The difference is that Americans are upset, ashamed, or angry when their troops do it, while people in some Middle Eastern countries danced in the streets on 9/11 and when the bodies of dead American civilians were dragged through the streets in Iraq. - Thomas Sowell (a very wise man)

I think you should think about your choice of words before you post them.

I'm sorry your ability to comprehend what is said is so poor. No-one was attempting to justify anything. The author was merely pointing out that rather than americans dancing in the streets, we are concerned when something like this happens. We, in general, do not celebrate this type of news. It's especially telling how many here protest over pictures but were so silent when the americans were beaten, tortured, killed and mutilated.
Also it seems you missed this....
I think you should learn how to read, and think.

I'm sure not EVERY Arab was dancing... In general, my heart would tend to agree with luvdemshroom's post, but it is just not correct to judge an entire race on the 'worst-case scenario' of a news report. Likewise, I'm sure we all know someone who laughed their head off at the Iraqi photos and said "Serves 'Em Right!" (Also, you can never be sure of what you might have seen if the camera angle was a little wider )

In 1971 The Stanford Prison Experiment was held. Middle class college students, all men, were divided into two groups for role playing- prisoners and prison guards. They were "arrested" one by one and taken to the mock prison.
'What suspects had done was to answer a local newspaper ad calling for volunteers in a study of the psychological effects of prison life. We wanted to see what the psychological effects were of becoming a prisoner or prison guard. To do this, we decided to set up a simulated a prison and then carefully note the effects of this institution on the behavior of all those within its walls.'
The men were pre-screened for mental disorders, history of drug abuse, etc. Their classification as prisoners/prison guards was arbitrary. The experiment was scheduled to last two weeks. A decision was made to cancel the study after only 6 days due to abuse of the "prisoners" by the "guards". Here is a link to the website. Very interesting stuff.
