So first question I have is why do you have unnecessary stuff inside your SAB? Is that a cig?

I'd bye gloves that fit properly, it'll make a world of difference. I'd also put the camera on top, so when you rewatch it you can see what you did wrong. It looked like to me there were several times your hands went over open jars or the lids when you took them off and flipped them over. It also seemed like you waved your hands a bunch. You want to think through your movements. Do a practice run, and plan out what your going to do.

Those jars are very deep, and mostly empty. I'd use shorter jars for my agar, and fill my grain jars up almost.

So after typing this I read a few comments from before, and they are still valid critism.

why are you spawning inside the SAB? your hands hover all over whatever surface is how you contaminate shit. you can literally spawn a tub naked hanging your butt checks over the tub.

This might work, but also a prime example of what I mean by ignoring advice and doing your own thing, have you ever seen anyone who pulls off successful grows do what you are doing? I’m all for finding what works for you but first of all you need to figure out what works for the organism you are trying to cultivate. Then you can adapt from there, instead of taking shots in the dark, experiential knowledge is going to prove more valuable to you at this point than half cocked experiments.

Casing is only necessary for PE but it usually isnt straight verm, but a mix of verm and peat, and its pasteurized, not sterilized

there is no need to use a sab for spawning, Spawning can be done open air, a clean cheese grater will break your cakes up more evenly

going to bulk with cakes is a good way to get started but you’re gonna need a deeper sub, this means a smaller container or more cakes.



As far as that particular experiment goes I would definitely add more sub or a casing layer, since its so thin, but straight verm is less than ideal.

OP what are you trying to do? This thread has gotten to 25 pages so obviously following the conversation to this point is impossible.

I think you should case, and I do it with a CV mix. Just coir and verm, no gypsum just cuz I’m lazy and have to dissolve the pellets before use.

Idk what the problem with my specific set up is, but everytime I try to leave a tub uncased  it dries out and never pins. Sometimes I let it go to long and all the mushrooms grow on the bottom :shrug:

Obviously this is all my fault but nonetheless, just casing with my coir/verm solves the issue completely, and if I spawn the tub right I can avoid sidepins as well.

I would say use hydrated coir as a substrate and just use the left over for a 1/4” to a 1/2” casing.

yah, hand awareness will help during agar transfers, you got to keep your fingers and hands out of your jars and over top of any/every open thing that has been sterilized. definitely see improvements, still see too much uncertainty about stuff tho, plan it better so not a whole lot of shuffling stuff around and no need to add/remove items until work is done and items are sealed back up until next used.

interesting cake to tub thing you got going on there, curious to see how that turns out. where you been hiding 100% colonized brf cakes at? here i was all happy to see you got myc only to learn you have cakes to shred, feeling set up:blush::facepalm:

ProTip: set cig on top for celebratory smoke break after mission complete :lol:

tea, people are commenting without actually reading the thread. there has been enormous progress the last 2-3 weeks, originating from people convincing the man who doesnt listen and cant take advice to try agar.

he started without a SAB.
shit contamed, he cried: "not fab!"
he got dissed, so he made a SAB.
now he has a SAB in his LAB.

he started with a 6 year old spore syringe
thing wasnt clean, shit got contamed to cringe
he got told the only way to clean up
or get clean spawn, was to go agar
then he'd get far

so he went agar, put agar
in shitty non pp5 petri dishes
shit contamed, he cried
and people told him to
wrap his agar better
or sleep with the fishes

this turned out too hard for him,
so he went glass no pour agar
which IS a accepted tek
and worked hard with agar
while smoking joints in the car,

when he finally started getting clean spawn
people who gave him up at page 5
told him he wasnt getting results fast enough,
so in a rash move he took his one 100% brf take
and spawned it to vermiculite/coir

then they beat him some more
i am mea culpa
i am to blame
I will take the blame
