I picked about 1/3 of the first flush. 201.5
About 50% of the fruits seem to be bent and twisted. Any reason for this?
I haven't even started picking the aborts. There must be hundreds. I'm NOT looking forward to that!
I'll update with dry weight in 24 hours.
Cheers!

I've had dozens of trays grow twisted fruits with small caps just like those. They all came from the same LC (also my first LC), while another LC made from the same syringe gave me picture perfect canopies every time. I vote shitty genetics. Better luck next time , looks to me like you did everything right but the spores with the half-assed fruiting traits germinated first. Do another small grow with that LC and see if the fruits grow retarded again, then try a new MS inoculation and see how it goes.

Genetics... yeah. I don't go heavy on the Lysol. In fact, I'm a big fan of the oven tek even though a lot of people around here don't like it. I have another monotub (same size, same substrate + gypsum) on the grow with the same multi-spore LC. We'll see what happens. It just finished colonizing (6 days) and it's under wax paper as we speak.
I don't mind all the twisted fruits. As long as there's no loss of potency. I picked everything this afternoon and I have 8 trays in the dehydrator. 486.2g of normal-sized fruits and 328.9g of aborts. Total of 815.1g.
It took me the better part of an hour to pick all the aborts. If the next flush pins as well as this one, I'm going to pick about 1/3 of the fruits, hoping for more larger fruits and less aborts. I think the substrate just couldn't handle that many pins. I mean, there must have been at least 300.
After I cleared all the aborts, I misted to saturation and layed wax paper on the substrate and I hope to see pins in a few days. The casing hasn't shrunken very much so I'm hoping for at least 2 more decent-sized flushes. If I can get 10oz. dry, I'll be a very happy hobbyist!
Sorry if I'm rambling...
Cheers, everyone!

Okay, here's some numbers...
First Flush
Full-sized fruits: 486.2g wet, 47.9g dry Aborts: 328.9g wet, dry... ooops!
Second Flush
Full-sized fruits: 669g wet Aborts: 94.9g wet
The second flush is still drying but I'm hoping for over 2 ounces dry from the full-sized fruits.
Here's a pic of a split veil from the second flush:
I can't believe how symmetrically it split. I hope it tastes okay!
And my second double tub is fruiting as we speak. It's identical to the first one in every way except that I added 1.25 cups of plaster of paris to the substrate and I added an extra inch of substrate to bring it up to a full four inches.
I've noticed that the extra inch of sub has increased the humidity significantly more than the first tub. The condensation is dripping down the walls and it looks beautiful. Here's a pic:
I'm really expecting 3 ounces dry off this first flush. I know it has it in it!
Cheers!

I guess the outcome of my B+ LC was okay. Considering it was multi-spore, it could have been worse. I have a Puerto Rican LC that just finished and I'm gonna clone the best fruits I get from that.
I forgot to weigh the first flush aborts after they had dried. I believe it was bong-hit number 4 that did me in
Here's the dry weight from yesterday (flush #2):
Full-sized fruits: 60.3g = 2.15 ounces Aborts: 13.4g
I will definitely post a pic or two of tub #2 when the fruits are fully developed. They're a little skinny right now but I'm hoping they fill out.
Thanks for the compliments!

great fucking job. this is beautiful. ok but i don't understand something, You keep saying that you peeked in the monotub, after you mix the colonized substrate and the coir/worm castings your not supposed to open the monotub ever? Until the shrooms are done?
Or is that part of why it works so good is because you don't open it?
where does the light come from? a transparent top of the tub?

Katfish - yes, and yes! The non-opening traps humidity in and the transparent top lets light in so the shrooms know which way is up.
Do a search for some monotub teks - oatman2000 has done some good ones, as has jeetered.
Cheers - boingkster.

I don't agree with the vote on genetics at all. If that fully colonized substrate had been cased and cared for, you would have seen much better fruits. You get what you put in. Monotubs are an easy "set it and forget it" tek , but you can't expect to achieve the fruiting potential without careful monitoring of temperatures and humidity levels and REAL fresh air exchange.
