I started using those alcohol burner cans caterers use to heat trays of food. It burns hot and clean. They're cheap and they last quite a while. Can't tell you how many times I've lit my glove on fire messing with a lighter.

Why haven't you gotten more petri dishes?

Or a torch?

Or a thinner blade?

The latter two are very common supplies. You had petri dishes earlier in this thread. Make it easier on yourself.

If you can't get Glad Mini Rounds, IKEA has 'Pruta' lidded containers. They're polypropylene. They come in a variety set, four of them are 5oz/150ml. You should be able to use them like pasty plates - you'll probably have better success with that.

This. You need to make an investment, albeit a small one, into some proper equipment.

I didn't see your blade glow at all. You want it to be incandescent. That torch will likely get that blade there, but, again, make it easy on yourself. You'll also run into the problem of agar sticking to the blade really bad because it gets pitted after repeated torching, so, best to have something with disposable blades.

Just watch RRs Let's grow mushrooms series. Do exactly what he does, have what he has. I can't think of any other good visual tools other than those video's.

If you can do that then you wont have to blunder around with whatever you're doing.

Munch and bodh's videos are much better suited to current new growers, more direct to the point and easier to follow, IMO

Ok, I understand the reactions now, been very very stoned on some very sticky black brown hash, all yellow/greeny inside, filmy as fuck, smears down anything it touches, ricky from trailer park wuda been proud.

The blade is not properly sterilized if doesnt grow incandescent "red"

K, there will never be a lighter video again, gonna procure butan before the next vid

Not PF Tek because you aren't filling the jar to the top, or using a dry verm layer, or inoculating with a syringe.

On to your new videos...  Watched both, you are absolutely getting better.  I'm curious, have you watched them yourself?  What do you think you did wrong?

Wait what??? It’s the PF tek if you’re using BRF and fruiting straight from the cake.. that’s all PF tek entails. It doesn’t have to Ben inoculated with a syringe or not use a filter or only use germ as a barrier or blah or blah or blah... no need to argu semantics

To me a pf cake has a layer of verm on top and is inoculated through the lid. If he's not using Ms syringe or some kind of lc/li then it's not going to get through the verm. If he's not using a verm layer and he's just transferring agar to cakes then it's just a brf cake imo bc everything that made a pf cake practical and popular had been omitted. I don't care what ppl want to call it but to me when someone says pf cake I assume those details have been observed.

The main takeaway from 'tek' is technique. If you're not replicating the technique, you're doing something different.
Both PF and OP are using brown rice flour and vermiculite for their spawn, but approaching it with vastly different techniques.

About the PF tek: the discussion is ridiculous. PF tek is a standard with some components that have been stable since beginning, and others have changed.
As a billion takes on PF tek, some still available by search, at this site, clearly proves.

If we want to get all anal and super serious, any takeoff from "canon" PF tek is something else. Someone mixes the dry component first? Wow PF-tek 3.1!

@Dcev Learn: In the first video, there are no clear mistakes to me other than what has already been observed and mentioned; the lighter use instead of a proper torch. But thats only one transfer. As youc an see the cutting goes nice, the piece is easily retrieved and Im keeping lid opentime low.

In the second video, there are several: lid that falls on the SAB floor, some bumps, knife touching surfaces and having to re-sterilize, hands hovering about jars.

You guys are aware that the PF Tek is a specific technique named after it's creator Psylocybe Fanaticus, right?  It's not just some short-hand way of saying you're growing using cakes.  You can read up on it's history at fanaticus.com.

I'll re-watch the videos tonight and we can make a list of corrections.  There are many that you probably don't realize. You'll never get it 100% right, we all still drop things, leave stuff open too long, but you still have a lot of small things you can do to really improve.

GUys I know you like the new torch and that you want things to be incandenscent when you light one up, but the more I think about it those things are dangerous
what if it blows up? or you forget to turn it off.. or you knock it over.. or it super ignites your isapropanol

doesnt seem safe to me

the other day I kept hitting a jar with my hands to get agar of the jar wall

and it broke into pieces where some of the glass ended up giving me two nice cuts as well on my palm, i could post a pic if you wanted

and if I add the torch operation to the hobby to me it seems dangerous

not trolling, actually worried about the torch

Respect it for what it is and you'll be fine.  People weld all day and never get hurt as long as they follow precautions.  If you're worried about leaving a torch on or lighting iso on fire, your level is precaution is way too low.  I regularly use a torch to smoke cannabis concentrate and have been for years now.  I've burnt myself here and there but even my stoned ass has managed not to burn the house down.  You're good, just be careful.
