What's going on in the corner of my tub?
    #26159929 -

Full shot:

Seems like the whole thing is colonized except for the surface that corner (just beneath it is solid myc). Wondering what could be going on.

My guess is that the airflow hits that side and dried the grains out. Is the tub sealed up or in "fruiting conditions"?

good question. My guess would be bacterial

Like in Bod's tek, it's always in fruiting conditions.

This tub did dry out a little bit, but not as much as so of the shoeboxes I did with the same coir.

It just smells like mushrooms.

Like I said, right under the brown is solid myc. Maybe when it dried out, the top layer got bacterial but everything beneath it is colonized?

I've never ever ever had a tub do that. Not sure what to tell you. Maybe some day I'll run into that particular problem. Does the top seem dry? It definitely seems dry to me

Possibly. I feel it wud have to be really dry for the myc not to colonize the visible grains. Actually, bacterial contamination or ultra dryness. Them wud be the only two i cud figure.
Or it was kinda dry in that corner and you misted strait at it or too much and blasted the myc down...but i dnt thnk thats it.

Yeah, I've seen it in jars and bags plenty of times but never in a tub.

Well, y’all made a me a lil paranoid, so I sniffed again. When I just sniff over the tub, mushroom smell. Stuck my head right in that corner, and there is a slight sour smell mixed with the mushroom smell.

Like I said, I had a batch of tubs go dry (4 shoeboxes and this tub). Two of the shoeboxes were separating from the wall at 5-6 days after spawn they were so dry. Since I noticed, i’ve stayed on top of misting. Had to do it about 3 times a day because they dried out so fast, but I never directly sprayed into my tubs, just misted over them. The shoeboxes that were mega dry are now mostly colonized on top, and they smell like straight shroomies.

Wondering what I should do now? Read a million times in cultivator tips thread that it’s nearly impossible to contam a tub of coir with clean spawn. I despise the smell of mushrooms, so when I spawned the 11 jars, I was getting sick from the smell of straight mushrooms; I knew it was clean. I knew moist sub could cause contains, never knew a slightly dry subs would cause contam

slightly dry is relative. How much water are you using to how much coir... any verm?

I split 2 650g of coir across the 4 shoeboxes and unmodified tub following Bod's bucket tek. Coir came out pretty wet, so I squeezed it to field capacity over my bucket; By the end of loading up my tubs, the bottom of the bucket was straight mud, so I only used about 80% of that coir. Hence why I decided against casing them. Didn't want to risk contaming them with super wet sub. No verm at all

Ok quick update to see what y'all think. I think I am just being super paranoid. I just spawned these on 8/20, and my theory is that the problem is a mixture of dryness and impatience. The sub was quite dry on top for a few days so it wasn't able to fully colonize, perhaps the dryness delay overall colonization. I was out of town for 5 days and had a box fan running the whole time (across the room, pointed in the opposite direction). This delayed colonization is my guess. I just misted and could only smell mushrooms, no more sour. Even asked my roommate to sniff around the tub and he says it just smells earthy, no funk at all. I'm also coming off of a bad sinus infection, so my sense of smell is not reliable that's why i brought in the roomie. Upon closer inspection, it looks like the myc is starting to grab on to the sides of the grains on top, and maybe I'm just hopeful, but it seems more colonized now than when I made this post; like this is slightly more white in that corner and on the top grains.

Oh you got all kinda squiddlydee going on there.
Well shit, if that corner colonizes up, post a pic.

Unless it’s bruising or lighting, it looks like you have quite a few green spots in there which would explain it.  Even bruising could indicate a reaction to trich or some other fungal contam.

can you please explain what you mean by squiddlydee? Haha, I don't know if that's good or bad!

It definitely looks like bruising to me, blue spots up close; in fact, even with a flashlight, I can barely find any blueing in that corner today. Like said above, I left this unattended for 5-6 whole days while I was out of town with a box fan running. They were quite dry when I came back, and most of these tubs had blue spots like this, but the other shoeboxes recovered very well and starting to knot up.

was the lid on askew while you were away? I'm still guessing dryness is the issue but I'm admittedly slightly color blind and often don't see color until it's super fuckin obvious. Mycolorado may be correct. Even if it was originally a dryness problem, trich could still be the outcome. A bunch of uncolonized nutrition chillin for a week is never a good thing

The lid was on upside down per Bod's Tek, so there was only a crack from where the lid is not flush with the tub. Bod says in the tek he's done both a casing and no case and the lid still stays the same.

Almost positive it's not trich. I've seen trich before on my agar plates and in other posts, and this just looks like blue myc, not all nasty like mold. Blueing was very deep and dark when I found the tub dried and has since become less blue over the past couple days. That picture above is from today.

Also, everything I've read say that coir is very contam resistant and mold spores wouldn't be able to take on the fully colonized grain. Which is what the blueing was on, the grains.

But I'm also a big newbie. I've seen myc colonized over a small patch of trich on agar plate, but I know those nasty spores are still under there fucking shit up. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, mycolorado will chime again on the pic I posted above.

Is this tub from the bacterial jars you said you spawned?

Yeah, always hard to tell from pics.  Like I said though, you can have bruising as a reaction to trich eating at the myc.  Hopefully it’s just due to drying out.
