a couple questions. the heater I have does not have a thermal sensor, but rather a dial with temperature settings on the thing. does this mean I might have to turn it up a little bit to get the right temp? Also, there water doesnt come up the side that much unless I zip tie it down, but then it will be pain in the ass to change the temp if needed. I also would have to drill in the top tub and I dont know how the lid would stay securely snapped if there was a zip tie under it.

I see you've discovered why a heater that has the thermostat built in is undesirable.

It will still work, but you will have to fiddle with the setting a little more to get it right, and environmental changes could warrant a setting change.

As for the ziptie thing, I'm not sure. It seems like I saw a post by someone who just has their tub in tub sitting in there, and not tied down so the water comes up the sides, and it works fine for them.

I'd say that since you have the type of heater you do, go ahead and don't ziptie so you can change settings easily. If it doesen't work for you, you will have to start considering modifications to your current setup.

the rubbermaids I got are really right fitting.Hardly any water comes up the sides because the sides are so snug. With the power cord for the heater in there taking them apart and adjusting the temp is a total bitch.

Having the bottom of the top tub on teh surface of the water in the bottom tub is plenty of warmth in the tub in tub, for me anyway.

Drill a whole on each tub, tie down with wire. Not exactly rocket science.

The water pump isn't needed if you don't mind the heat just coming from the bottom. Myself for some reason I can't stand it. My jars always take up to two days longer that way I'd rather have the heat coming from all sides possible. This is a benefit esp if you stack the jars in the incubator cause with no pump the top jars are way way cooler then the bottom.

But as always there is a million ways to do this people and let me tell you which is the best way cause I do know. Here it is  ANY WAY THAT GETS YOU SHROOMS IS GOOD THERE JUST FUCKING MUSHROOMS PEOPLE.

What I'm trying to say is develop your own style and run with it. It isn't the steps we take that make Anno, Hyphae, Scat, myself and others around here the master growers everybody says we are cause we aren't and that is a fact. Here is the secret, practice, practice, practice if every body has done the steps as many times everybody would be so called masters. Just do it over and over. When you run into contams get back up on that horse and try again. Make adjustments, fuck with stuff play a little and believe me it will come to you and every time you figure out something that works it will feel like the first time you say myc growing in the jar.

What Magash said is fact as far as practice makes perfect (almost) I do find that heat still raises  I'm happy with what ever results I get good or not so good. I'd also like to reiterate ANY WAY THAT GETS YOU SHROOMS IS GOOD THERE JUST FUCKING MUSHROOMS PEOPLE.

people, people...

just use wire instead of zipties. That way, if you need to clead the tubs or play with the heat, you can just untwist the wire and temporarily remove the tub without having to cut and waste ties. I'm sure there's a ton of other ways you can achieve the same results with a little improvisation.

I got a 100pack of zipties at a autoparts store for $3. You can definitely just cut them if you need to adjust settings or clean, as they are $.03 a piece.
