Does anybody running unmodded tubs go BIG? I can't find a single example. (double digit tubs)

Does anybody running unmodded tubs go BIG?

I tried and could find nothing to support this in any combination of things I searched for on this topic.

Or, is this just an alternative route that does produce mushrooms, so once successful the small-ish hobby growers get indoctrinated into this camp, whether because of their own success(es) or simply because somebody 'trusted' recommended it at some point? Or are people going big with unmodded tubs I haven't found???

Anybody been throwing up XX numbers with unmodded tubs out there? I'd love to see it.

Guess I'm not sure what your asking.

I have ran several (18 was the most) unmod tubs at the same time and have got a big amount of fruits out of each one.

Just like any monotub you could do 1 or 100+
Just because the tub gets FAE from holes that exist by virtue of the tubs design rather than drilled in really doesn't matter the least. Just depends what kind of tubs you want in your place

You can cut holes. Stuff with poly
Cut holes, cover with micropore tape
Do like pasty just posted a tek for and drill small holes and skip poly and micropore tape all together
Or find a tub where the lid flipped makes the FAE holes.

You could "go big" with shoeboxes lol.

Pretty easy stuff.

Also for what its worth just like grain spawn any type works if it doesn't it's operator error because there's people successfully using all types of grain for spawn. The same goes for most monotub teks. Of course you'll find a type you like best but they all work and give you around 1-2 ounces dried per quart of spawn put in if the cultivator is a competent grower.

I suspect you might just be salty about this tho

The only real difference is when you're flipping/unlatching/adjusting the lids for FAE, you can't really stack unmodded tubs.
So you'd need shelves.

josex had a rented appartment just to grow mushrooms. i dont remember how many he would run at once but at least 20+ all unmodded. he even taped up the holes from his older tubs:lol:

Instead of flipping the lids one could just put a twisted up piece of foil around each corner, then put the lid on normal and latch it if it does. This creates a half inch gap around the lid and the lid rim is down offering a protective lip against dust/debris. Then you can stack them right up to the sky. Thumb tacks work well too (the spherical ones are perfect) but are way less pleasant to step on when they get bumped off...

Technically not a modification since it doesn't alter the tubs physical matrix.

They stack just not awesomely.
And like nichrome said you can effectively make any tub work if you can use your brain

Yeah, so you have run 18 unmodded monotubs, and is that how you continued in perpetuity? The results made you happy, and they proved less hassle to run in the long term for "big-ish" grows? You run tubs regularly?

You're right it is pretty easy stuff. :thumbup: I am looking for the easiest route possible provided it is just as productive. I wanted to see if I could scrounge up some big unmodded grows to get a feel for what people growing at scale say about how they liked it. :shrug:

Perhaps glean some differences in a setup that stretches across a much larger space and requires more management etc.

But I was unsuccessful finding any examples of big unmodded grows/growers to look at/strike up a conversation with. Legit pursuit, because I'm not going to let biases get in the way of a more streamlined, easier to manage system just because I started with holes regardless of how I feel about anything else.

So I know I have seen bod say he hasn't been growing much lately, and he is the unmodded messiah, so I'll ask you guys:

newtomyc, mushboy you still run unmodded? You have a preference one way or the other? If it is your go-to for bulk setups I'd love to know the main reasons why, and what you consider the drawbacks if any.

I can think of maybe 5 people in the last 5 years that have done 20+ tubs and also kept at it in rotation. People that go that big don't have time to post and i suspect most people don't want to do show and tell on an operation that big. Hamloaf posted pics of 50+ tubs but most people suspect that everything but the front ones were empty lol because there's never a follow-up.

A lot of people have done 20+ but like once or twice a year.

for stacking? it can be a hassle because the weight of the tubs can push the lids down tightly. so use spacers of sorts. or stagger the tubs.

lots of solutions to explore before i make holes in all my storage bins. easiest is a matter of perspective.

its easier to ffo than grab a drill imo. on that note ill be running some modded tubs soon with PE:blush::stoned:

Okay cool. Any reason for not just running them unmodded? What's your go-to? Modded or unmodded?

Multitaskers are my preferred tools. Unmodified tubs are better multitaskers. If you get lots of snow they can be used to make amazing blocks to build igloos, forts, walls providing excellent cover for snowball fights.

I was running a bunch of unmodded tubs in a buddies garage, and had issues getting good fae because the humidity spiked from having all that substrate in one room, ended up modding all of them after a bad pseudomonas breakout, didn’t fix the problem entirely but it did help, the main issue wasprobably that my buddy didnt have the time or experience to check on them often enough and recognize the need for fae. And he has a kid part time thats getting old/smart enough to ask questions so we put the ixnay on it.

Last time I saw someone(loc9) post a wall of tubs they got shamed super hard by like 3/4 of the posters for being a β€œdrug dealer” buncha jealous little bitches that wish they had the balls to do the same if you ask me. But then again basically the only way to get busted in this hobby is to make people jealous, piss someone off who knows too much, or just being careless/ a general idiot..

Who the fuck is even at the recycle depot let alone gives a fuck about anything that is legitimately recyclable? Nobody cares. Worst case when disposing or transporting modified tubs in public just say a child was left unattended. Unless you go mushrooms popping up out of em nobody cares. Even with a substrate in the bottom you could just say it's for pets, perhaps turtles. Best choice is to excercise your right to not answer questions. If you do choose to not answer questions simply and politely tell the pig; "I will not answer questions without my lawyer."

AyePlus has made a perfect case as to why you should not involve other people or rely on others to do your work for you in this endeavor.

Ain't nothing wrong with being a drug dealer so long as you have scruples.
