I'm pretty sure birds like eating the mycelium, or insects that live amongst it. So it could be them. I do think though that some people dig up patches to take all the mycelium.

Black birds also destroy patches. But blatant hole digging out patches is pretty common over the years. I see it happening more and more.

Subs growing indoors?? How do you get the temp low? or do you put in the freezer for 24hrs to restart it?

Yeah makes sense for people to take some mycellium home. But if this person is just hitting the mushrooms and taking the mycellium home, their mycellium patch must be huge and would grow rapidly.

These subs are in an outdoor fruiting chamber, with heating to keep the temps up a bit. I reckon that the cycle is what is needed and constant temps don’t work.

Super cold at night, drops moisture makes pinning, etc. . . Then warm i. The day to evap and pick up more moisture. . .

Just a theory, will see what temps were doing once I analyse the data. Damned hygrometers were on the fritz and I may not have decent records :-(

It was a patch that obviously only I know about and hadn't visited in over a month. Many of the giants were rotting down. I shoulda been visiting it weekly... Oh well...

far out though. those last enclaves of activity are throwing up some ungodly monsters. I could almost fit my whole dinner on that big one near the center. Photos never quite seem to portray the scale as meaningfully as the naked eye, but that one is over 90mm across. Impressive. In 20 years of picking I've come across a lot of impressive and beautiful specimens. You probably wouldn't believe me how big the biggest one I've found is, unless you saw it your own eyes. it was heavy too, stringy trunk like rope. Ah, memories.

Well, probably about time for the first trip of the season. Is it Matariki yet? it must be. Now, what shall be the focus for invoking for the next orbit of the sun?

Impressive. if one those caps (they're wavy, so its hard to see) is roughly the size of a circle you make touching you thumbs and forefingers together. Then, YES! - about the size of a decent tea cup saucer.

but understandably, you likely won't believe. I mean this thing had a cap almost like leather. The guy who ate it took about 5 minutes to get through it. You know, I like to show off just as much as next fool, but YUCK, glad I found it, but sheesh...makes me cringe thinking about how he slowly chewed it. ugh

angulospora is done for me this year, unfortunately the patch is now under water, finally started finding subsecos though. great to see abit of variety :thumbup:

This was found around 6 weeks ago, I was told this was P. angulospora. Buller region. Can anyone confirm?
