not a bad idea to speak more than one though.  Like, i actually agree with you but i also agree with koods that our education system is a failure with regard to language, english or otherwise.

Im not against learning or speaking other languages btw, just think that in an English speaking country all of its citizens should at least be able to speak English or be in the process of learning it. Its just plain asinine to suggest that american citizens should be able speak Spanish or something in order to be able to communicate with immigrants. Immigrants that dont speak English shouldn't be enabled by getting jobs, etc while not knowing

Children should learn a second language starting in kindergarten. Everyone in the US should be bilingual. It increases IQ and it would make Americans a lot less embarrassing.

My former elementary school is now an immersion mandarin magnet school. All course work is in Chinese except for the English classes.

I seriously doubt that is the case. Do you have any proof they lowered the wages? Factories all over the country can’t find enough workers because so many people in the Midwest are junkies. Trumps America is strung out on heroin, while they whine about immigrants that won’t even live in their shithole communities.

I agree that the accurate number is probably around the high estimate.

However, "closed or open borders" is just a theoretical debate. How is enforcing the laws or making new ones or building a wall going to have real effects? It's not. We can't keep drugs out of prisons, but you think we can stop very poor and/or politically oppressed people from taking risks to seek a much better life.

Until American conservatives start concentrating their effort on punishing the employers (which isn't going to happen anyway, either in the sense of concentrating their efforts or it happening anyway) this is just a fake argument so people expressing their anti-immigration views can signify their dislike of brown people. That's all it is. It's strictly culture war rhetoric.

At my previous employer, which I estimate the workforce was 40-50% illegal, there were people calling immigration every week. I don't know how the fix is in, but it's definitely in. It's not going to change.
