Walking around the other day in Dunedin and there's half a dozen individuals/pairs walking around staring into woodchipped beds and looking dodgy... I was tempted to ask if they'd had any luck hah.

Also, look at this weirdo sub. Just a small fella but the cap's opened up but the veil doesn't want to go away.

If there is a lot of leaf litter on a patch would it be best to sweep it away or keep it covered?l for future growth?

Last 2 days in Christchurch... a bit mushy and frost damaged:  just when we finally get some (2 days) rain, and encourage some growth ; then came immediate hard frosts to shut everything down.

The pins i left behind: not sure if they will grow.  -3° This morning!

I tore the walls of my tank down so they could grow out the sides instead of just through the top. It stalled for a few weeks, maybe from the shock of handling it excessively, but fortunately it pinned again!

A couple of pieces of advice.
1. read the thread title (No ID requests)
2. Be gentle when harvesting if you want yoiur patch to continue producing through the season.
Start an ID thread to get advice. Those look good, except there should be obvious blueing.

In addition to what Bobbit said, you need to lay the mushrooms out so each individual is able to be observed clearly. There could be a deadly mushroom in amongst that mess...

Anyone having any luck around Wellington? Or have we gone straight from "too dry" to "too cold/windy"?

You can use the search function to see what's been posted in the last few months in reference to Wellington.

Finds in Wellington:

Also a couple of comments regarding Wellington/Hutt area:

Quote:
Finally today the subs are popping in Wellington. It has been a long summer here.

Quote:
The Hutt has been going a few weeks now, pins up until the last few days. Bring on a cold snap

Quote:
I did try the big gardens and parks in Wellington but found next to nothing

Conclusion: Seems like it's kind of quiet in Wellington area, but there's definitely been finds there. It seems that people are especially reporting finds of P. weraroa, far more so than P. subaeruginosa, which is interesting and indicates that searching in surrounding bush might be a better bet than looking through woodchipped gardens. Although the latter is certainly easier than the former.

NB: I only looked at confirmed actives posted in this (the 2019) thread. There's also a number of other threads in relation to Wellington that may change the ratio of subs:weraroa.

Today's finds, I left lots of pins behind so I expect a few days will see them open up. Stumbled across a couple of spots that were well hidden that I had walked past several times before. There are some grapes in the dehydrator as well.

I am north of Wellington but as far as I am concerned the Wellington region has been very productive this year. I have collected at least three times as much as I did last year's season and it appears to be still going strong. If Wellington central is quiet it is probably because there are too many pickers and not enough to go around, although historically the area around the edges of the motorway between the Terrace where all the garden paths are would be worth checking. Heading out of Wellington would also probably be a good idea, the area around Haywards Hill and along SH2 through Upper Hutt would probably be worth a check.
