Huh, I was rumaging around my backyard looking for mushrooms (as ya do) and found this guy. Turns out there's subs growing wild, right in my backyard... It's a bit manky and the area it was growing is along a chicken-wire fence that's pretty overgrown. Couldn't see any others in the area but there's some definite mycelium there! I pulled away the grass and random weeds a bit to expose it a tad, so perhaps I'll get some more, nicer fruits from it :laugh:

I had some good finds today and yesterday, nothing in the way of large patches but lots of smaller ones in the 8-10 number range. They still added up to 2  dehydrator trays worth. I only seem to find subaeruginosa's - not that I'm complaining - these seem pretty potent. I ground up 5 small and medium sized ones and soaked them in the juice of an orange and a little bit of boiling water for 10 minutes, sieved off the mushroom and just drank the juice. It gave a mild trip with visuals for 7 hours or so. I've been a bit cautious after my last trip last season, it affected me so badly that I flushed everything I had collected that season, I regretted doing that within 3 hours of flushing it, but I felt like the mushrooms were telling me something :-).

I think we are in the same area SteCon. Will keep my eyes out for a man with a dog peering into gardens and roadsides while I'm out doing the same :grin:

Enough to keep it damp. Imagine wetting a cloth and then squeezing it tightly to remove moisture. The soil ought to be about that damp.

NZ4ME - I am generally searching in the area from Porirua to north of Paraparaumu, I did try the big gardens and parks in Wellington but found next to nothing, I also tried the Lower Hutt city council gardens but it was a bit too busy, I should have gone when it was raining and there weren't too many people around. I have only ever encountered 3 other people out looking in two seasons and I stopped and talked to two of them as they were obviously looking for mushrooms, the third looked a little insane so I didn't enquire why he was on his hands and knees in the woodbark chips sweeping them back and forth with a pole while his dog obediently sat beside him. I guess I miss most people because I am retired and am looking when others are at work. Most of the people I encounter are just walking dogs, running or biking.

I also think I do reasonably well because I take even the skankiest looking mushrooms so I am maybe taking ones that others would leave. I have a dehydrator and once dried you can't tell which ones were skanky.

I was out today and only got about 16 but I was going over territory I had been over a few days earlier.
