Today was absolute perfection weather-wise, what a pearler. Got up this morning for a look around, not a breath of wind, and the day cleared up beautifully.

Nice yellow one with a fly perched on top.

Alutacea I think? With a pin in the background.

And a stunning little speckled mushroom I found, managed to take a nice photo with my camera phone.

Brown one in third pic.. hard to say. Better lighting and possibly post as a seperate ID request. Water logged subs can appear 'brown' for sure. Check out the vicco thread theres heaps of variation in subs. They have had more rain than us, earlier than us.

Could just be a big'n.

Looks subbish to me, just has a big stem relative to cap-
Check mine from yesterday..

One or two browny stems cos i was following a creek= water.

Nah man if you could get a proper look and see the top of the cap or the gills you would see straight away that it's not a sub it's just one of those super common brown ones that grow everywhere I literally just ripped the closest mushroom I could find to compare it just happened to be one of those brown ones that look kinda similar to subs to an untrained eye  but I get what your saying a few of your stems are definitely pretty brown hey,  I will make sure to keep that in mind but I'm guessing waterlogged subs are not suitable for consumption anyway? Or are they still okay just not as "fresh" as a nice grey/white/blue stem one?

Just in case anyone needed any more reason to head out.

Pristine MONSTERS from a northern pine forest yesterday. I think there is more to this patch than just environmental conditions causing them to be so large. The area encompasses >100mx100m where pretty much every single sub that comes up is larger than average with many very large individuals. Every other area I searched this day and a few days before, the subs were probably 1/10th the size on average. I'd love to have the genetics sequenced.

Absolutely pristine. I couldn't find any bugs in any of them. I only searched maybe 1/20th of the area as well and left any that weren't 100% behind. I can't imagine ever finding a better spot than this for large harvests, I often leave hundreds behind. Pity they are so hard to photograph with the grassy under story.

@MYKL Waterlogged subs are usually okay to consume provided they are dried quickly and haven't started to rot. If they don't dry quickly, usually larvae starts hatching and then they rapidly turn into a slimy mess. I've found they are best used in teas.

Found around the Lofty region - seem to mimic the look of subs. There seems to be no blueing of any sort after being pinched making me a bit suspicious.

Hope you took 'em, they are subs mate. You can see a blue streak on the top of the stem of the middle one.

Nice pic. Subs don't always bruise but fresh ones like that usually do ime. Probably worth spore printing. And of course if in doubt chuck them out.

Afternoon hunt has been productive, though there's been (and still were!) plenty of other hunters about in my local sport I got a few trips worth, most of them right in under the bracken ferns. Hoping to explore some new ground next week.

My wife picked up some stranded mushroom hunters today that ran out of fuel. I wonder if it's someone who frequents this thread? :strokebeard:
