As this is my second season the dry has actually really helped me I guess....I'm visiting my spot regularly, exploring around the general area and seeing the slow changes. I can see where there is more moisture and where there is not. This should help working out where they will fruit first......I hope. Lots of inactives about...hope it's ok to post them just to liven the spirits.

From the north today.

Incredibly dry. Green grass has only just started and in a forest that would usually have dozens if not hundreds of Saffrons by  now I didn't spot a single one. No amanitas, 1 small patch of mycena, 1 field mushroom which had just come up. This spot is high altitude as well.

It was so dry large areas of blackberry and bracken had died, unbelievable.



But then, within a centimeter of the first pin I found last year, and almost a year to the date, 4 healthy pins. What a damn freaky patch of subs. There was no dew and it was hot walking around! I can't believe of all species this was the very first to come up here. The only other species I saw were puffballs. The other two were so deeply buried I couldn't even take a photo.



Another main patch had heaps and heaps of Gyms but nothing else. But it was dewy! Won't be long now.

Inactives always good in here, especially while we are all waiting. Is that a death cap?

Actives are certainly well on the move. Spied oodles of small pins today.  Also some mature specimens about.

Went for a little look around with a mate today, didn't see any real mature subs. Really made me realise just how late this wet season has been. Still, good to see a few pushing their way up!

Hey guys ultra noob here, ive found some mycelium no idea what kind, kinda hoping its subs but have not seen a sub in my area. Seem to find little bleeders or mushrooms without any white stems, when I do find white stems its a mushroom with red at the bottom and course does not bruise blue. I have been looking around a pine tree plantation also around wood chip areas. With all this id like to know if im picking too early or if maybe rains something i gotta look out for anything to help with my journey would be well appretiated!!

Welcome to the thread mate.
You've found Mycena, nothing active though a beautiful species. Finding lots of inactives is a good sign conditions in that area are favourable for subs too. Here's a shot of P.subaeruginosa yesterday which I hadn't intended to post. Fruiting near Mycena.

You can see subs are generally larger and more robust. For more info you can follow my sig link.

Haven't tried the Amanita muscaria @pinkban but I'm curious....I came across tonnes out north but let them be. From what I've read it takes a certain preparation?

yeah i would say read as much as you can before going anywhere near these :crazy2: never heard of anyone enjoying them. prep is huge for these. not prepping these properly will make a shit time worse!
and ya might kinda sorta poison yourself a smidge

Went and had a look around a couple of spots and was really surprised how far behind the scenery was in comparison to other years.

Didnt even see any inactives which was quite bizarre

Felt and looked like more so the beginning of March rather then end of May

I've had a feeling there's got to be pins coming up in the middle now. Will have to do the rounds.

Not the place for ID requests in future but.. Great find:thumbup: You have P.alutacea. Take note of the bluing on the lower stipe if you haven't already. It's much more subtle than P.subaeruginosa.

They were in an extremely damp spot with lots of tree cover down next to a stream.  Really surprising lack of inactives. So god damn dry.

Had a bountiful hunt down south the other day, most inactive edibles. Thought I found some subs but my friend convinced me they weren’t. Just pins anyway. Thought I’d post a pic here anyway.
