In the context of this story, no I don't think sites like the Shroomery are the kind of thing they would demand passwords to for this. More like Facebook and the like.

The Shroomery IS social media, especially if you spend any length of time reading and/or posting in The Pub or Political Discussion sections. That’s why I left for a few months, and here I am again. I need to either quit again or just stay in my preferred sections where people are nice to each other.

The title was a rhetorical question because the article says: "Anyone who lies about their social media use could face 'serious immigration consequences', according to an official."

The rules are applied first to people we don't care about - foreigners - then they apply them to all of us. We are on such a slippery slope. (Admittedly, I care about foreigners but the US, as a society, could give a flying rat's ass.)

The thing is Shroomery is an anonymous sort of social media which I don't think counts for the US Vista thing. Regular social media requires you enter a name and/or Facebook account with the social media account. At Shroomery, you don't need that.

Yeah I think it's social media 😂. some of the people on here try to get popular because of their massive ego and loneliness lol. There's also drama and competition. There's people on here with 60-80 thousand posts lmao! No one needs to post 60 thousand posts on a mushroom website lol. These people aren't socializing in the real world. It's 100% social media 🤣.

I dont view it that way Though we can consider this an online socializing. This place is very far different from narcissist environment of dumb FB if one will dig deep into it. It takes effort to share those teks and the good lessons around here, its not about competitions.

Probably shroomery is classified as an "interest forum". Same as motorbike, computing or dwarf tossing forums. (for example)

While in actuallity the shroomery is a forum, it has taken on many characteristics of social media platforms, I say that for the outbursty, confrontational nature that some memebers here carry. And the fundamental ability to hide behind a computer screen and say anything, at very least free from physical or real world consquences. but it is likley the shroomery is just in the pioneer generation of internet communcating and "Social media" being reletivly new and continuously evolving. Has many characteristcs that we have exploited about oursevles and under this roof long before grandma on facebook could blow off her jollies in the comment section of something that means nothing to her. Which came first the chicken or the egg? We've been blowing shit here along time, facebook and all those others caught on and comercialized it.
