Auto-SummaryThe forum post debates the correlation between video games and increased violence, particularly mass shootings in the US. Pinkerton argues that while there is a correlation, there is no causation, citing that the rate of mass shootings in the US has tripled since 2011 despite the widespread popularity of video games. He points out that violence has been a persistent issue in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen, and suggests that the violence in video games, such as Grand Theft Auto, does not necessarily lead to real-world violence. Tantrika counters that video games reflect societal issues like fear and hostility, and that exposure to violent media can desensitize individuals, potentially leading to violent behavior. Tantrika also mentions personal experiences and examples, including a Canadian soldier with PTSD and the influence of video games on individuals like Anders Behring Breivik. The post concludes with a call for awareness of the pervasive impact of video games on society.

Oh really?
Studies indicate that the rate at which public mass shootings occur has tripled since 2011. Between 1982 and 2011, a mass shooting occurred roughly once every 200 days. However, between 2011 and 2014 that rate has accelerated greatly with at least one mass shooting occurring every 64 days in the United States.

Grand Theft Auto, much?
The violence errupted in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen. Go Battlefield and Call of Duty! You should know this, Tantrika.

Very interesting almost as interesting as the fact that US gaming only really took off around the Xbox 360 generation in 2005 while the overwhelming majority of gaming products and titles prior to that was produced in Japan including the atrocious violence-endorsing Mario that was mentioned on the previous page as replacing nice and friendly American Mickey Mouse values
but while gun violence in the US has been a problem for ages videogames have been a worldwide media phenomenon, and there is not a similar uptick outside the US
as was stated in my post that you objected to correlation is definitely a thing; videogames have become too widespread for it not to be but nothing about what you provided indicates a causation

It's the same bullshit, murder, rape and hatred. This we see all over society. It's the culture of fear and it's deeply rooted in video games.
...
if your position is honestly that there is no difference between someone having a serious psychological condition from real life sources(PTSD) and tracing back to before videogames (known as Shellshock in WWI, and general battle fatigue throughout history) is the same bullshit as videogames having somehow made society more violent it is not going to be possible for me to take your posts seriously

I blame the American people, they're not humane enough to stand up and say no. Suicide > unjust murder.
Children get influenced by murders and think it's cool, that's why they so violently do it abroad when they get older. It's a fucked up American culture-thing. Grand Theft Auto forgives you and kids subtly think that's what society does as well.
You should watch the provided video about the Canadian soldier who had his feet blown off in Afghanistan and came back without PTSD personally fond of him, as a Canadian myself, which also means all the shit you are spouting about how my hobby of videogaming is simultaneously a fucked up American culture-thing is giving me a good laugh

Come on! It takes time for the hatred to boil. It most often doesn't happen overnight. Kids think "is this the right thing to do?", then kills some hookers on Grand Theft Auto. It goes on like this for a long time before a few of them might pull it off IRL. This is just the start and we will only see more murders, rape and hatred the more kids play video games. I'm not blaming video games in itself but it's a part of the violent latent rage human beings holds inside them.

Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian terrorist abused World of Warcraft and said it boosted his morale and motivation.
He is just one of countless examples.

Look, I've personally committed crimes and I know for a fact all those hours in front of the computer and TV watching evil movies and killing hookers on Grand Theft Auto has made me more hostile. It was a lot easier for me to commit (relatively) unjust crimes after being forgiven by the TV. Also I had a thing for (soccer) hooliganism and it most certainly made me feel all tough and hardcore after watching those lunatics bash each others brains in on movies.
I've worked with children and I know they mimic Tekken/Street Fighter characters moves, I did it myself. And they hurt each other. Heck, they even mimic the heroic Spider Man and his moves and pull them on their fellow kid.
Afghani and Somali human beings in Norway are scared to death by video games, they see the same hatred they desperately fleed from. Wake the fuck up, Tantrika!!!

No, I didn't say that. What I tried to convey was that movies and games is the same bullshit. Murder, rape and hatred. Misery. Culture of fear and hostility. Video games and movies reflects society.
As for sports games:
"Bread and circuses".
Video gaming is madness.
