i'll try to add people as they complete the test.

There are a lot of people that took the test that i've never heard of and probably just dropped in here once or twice.

Nice one!  We can expand it to say: "this boiling sea of testosterone called politics."

Everyone knows that politicians are all just trying to compensate for having small penises.

Authoritarian/Libertarian: -4.31

not too far from ghandi, how quaint.

Authoritarian/Libertarian: -2.87

Some questions are badly phrased, though, so I erred on the side of moderation. A better test probably would have put me a little lower and to the right.

I just tried another test, a very easy test:

http://www.self-gov.org/quiz.html

Your Personal Self-Government Score is 100%.
Your Economic Self-Government Score is 60%.

According to your answers, your political philosophy is libertarian.

Libertarians are self-governors in both personal and economic matters. They believe government's only purpose is to protect people from coercion and violence. They value individual responsibility, and tolerate economic and social diversity.

Yes, wingnutx, I had pointed that out when everyone was taking the test. Some of the questions are abominable. In my case, there were at least two that I was unable to give an honest answer to, but you have to answer all of them or it won't rate you.

By the way, I am glad to see you back!

I know the test is flawed but whatcha gonna do? Besides i can't rank people if we're taking different tests. I'm updating the list as people take the test.

Quote:

Some of the questions are abominable.

Really? which?

1) Military service should be voluntary. (No draft)
2) Government should not control radio, TV, the press or the Internet.
3) Repeal regulations on sex for consenting adults.
4) Drug laws do more harm than good. Repeal them.
5) People should be free to come and go across borders; to live and work where they choose.
6) Businesses and farms should operate without govt. subsidies.
7) People are better off with free trade than with tariffs.
8) Minimum wage laws cause unemployment. Repeal them.
9) End taxes. Pay for services with user fees.
10) All foreign aid should be privately funded.

My score:

Your Personal Self-Government Score is 100%.
Your Economic Self-Government Score is 100%.

Yeah -- in the shorter test the questions are unequivocal, but is a test composed of just 10 questions really of much value? (by the way my score on that test is the same as yours).

For sure the questions in the longer test are very badly constructed. I think the two groups should collaborate - get the guys from the short test to reword the questions on the long test.

However, as InnVertigo pointed out, the fact that all of us are forced to wrestle with the same shitty questions tends to give us at least a relative comparison.

Its so weird to look at the list and see some of the people that don't post here anymore, like Randal Flagg, I miss that kid. He was a quick one.

I cracked up when I saw JiminiCricket, does anyone know what ever happened to him, did he get arrested for trashing the cop's house?

He put all of us in a room and let us fight it out.  As you can tell by looking at the numbers, the liberals kicked the shit out of the conservatives.  Violence is a lovely thing

I honestly thought I'd be more on the opposite, liberalistic anarchistic side. Still, I'm pretty much in the neutral zone.

I took the test over and misread a question.

I thought it said Govt should control.

It is silly, but it's also impossible to resist

My results:

Economic Left/Right: 0.25
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -6.62

Some questions felt rather US-centric. In Europe there would be no questions about death penalty, since most people here agree that it's a stupid idea. And except for the most retarded catholic populations, most people here agree that abortion should not be punished more than by the punishment that the act itself constitutes.

The economy score is funny: most of my friends think of me as an economic right-winger and a champion for free markets and non-marxist economies, but in the test I scored almost perfectly in the middle between right and left. I wonder where I answered wrong?

This is actually pretty similar to the personality tests that Leary was made famous for before the whole Harvard/LSD fiasco.
I wonder how it was written.(Does it display complex logic between questions,or does it just treat every question separetely?) If it's the former,I bet I actually predict what types of personality/psychological disorders people would display just by this test. I have a feeling that many people who scored close to me would be labled "schizotypal" (you could call it obtuse it you like).

As has been pointed out-some of the questions are overly broad.

Cool, thanks for bringing the test to attention. when i searched for one a few months ago, i only found a one-dimensional one which was inadequate for obvious reasons.
my results were:

economic: -7.12
social: -4.82

and by the way, there was a statement that said "the most important thing for a child to learn is to accept discipline". did that mean discipline i.e. hard-work or discipline i.e. punishment? i assumed the latter?

I got a few e-mails saying there are some new political cartoons (since that discussion is still tagged as a "favorite"), so I checked those out, and looked at the last few posts. I'll probably make a return in another month or two. See you guy then!

No, it's because many are badly phrased. For example, I found at least two where none of the available choices accurately reflected my position, but it won't score you unless you answer all the questions, so I just flipped a coin.

The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.
