https://www.npr.org/2019/02/06/691937342/n-m-governor-pulls-national-guard-from-border-citing-a-charade-at-federal-level?

It appears the Donnie and the fear tactic Republicans are being rebuked by those that live along the border.

Quote:
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has ordered the majority of National Guard troops deployed at her state's Southern border to withdraw, condemning what she called a "charade of border fear-mongering" by President Trump, who has warned of an immigration emergency in the region.

"I reject the federal contention that there exists an overwhelming national security crisis at the Southern border," Lujan Grisham said, adding that the area has "some of the safest communities in the country."

And.

Quote:
In addition to Lujan Grisham, other leaders along the border have said their communities are safe — and that there is no security emergency involving migrants. In its fact check of Trump's State of the Union speech, NPR's John Burnett and Carrie Kahn relayed these assessments:

"As for the 'state of our Southern border,' mayors along the Southwest border consistently say that their communities are among the safest in the nation. McAllen, Texas, Mayor Jim Darling asserted that his city is the third safest in Texas, according to FBI crime statistics, and seventh safest in the nation. 'Send social workers to process the asylum-seekers, not soldiers,' Darling said in a recent call with reporters. Eddie Trevino, Cameron County judge in Brownsville, added, 'It is a misconception that the border is insecure. There is no Central American invasion. This is a manufactured crisis.' "

They close the pill mills in Florida.
Then they make Roxi and Opana non-abuseable.
Next people turn to street drugs and surprise surprise everybody dies.

Bring back the pill mills!!! Make drugs legal! Make immigrants legal!!!

You can prohibit something and build a wall around it, but if people want it then they are going to get it one way or another.

And immigration is already legal. But maybe he's right. And maybe we should legalize shoplifting too, since shoplifters are going to steal stuff one way or another.

We have trespassing laws too. And we prosecute these laws even if nothing is stolen and no one is harmed.

And they're using valid passports to legally cross the border for temporary travel, not immigration. You're all heart and no head sometimes, Wicca dude.

Total bullshit, costing US taxpayers billions of dollars every year at the expense of US citizens is theft. Theft is NOT a "victim-less" crime.

Cheap labor to rebuild our infrastructure helps everybody in the US including the 1%. If we only let in the richest and smartest people then who is going to do the work that they are too over-educated for?

Not everything is about economic growth. Some of these people are fleeing because their livelihood is in danger and we should let them in because of that, whether it helps fill your greedy pockets or not.

The immigrants that built the US came from all over the world. Literally every continent that has people. Some were invited, some were slaves, and some came illegally. Learn your history.

Sorry, but your ancestors aren't any better than people coming over the Southern border. Why are you bringing up that they are Polish? Because you're racist? Seriously, what does that have to do with anything? That is a stupid racist comment.

What shitfest? The fact that Trump has any amount of power and is causing chaos? Everything else seems to be going fine as usual except for Trumps racist followers whining about people coming in to the US.

I work with illegal people all the time and they are some hard workers and really nice people. If anything we should ship-out some of these privileged lazy citizens and let in more latin people.

We don't need "cheap" third world illegals to build our infrastructure in the US, that's a real silly argument.

We have tens of millions of low-skilled US citizens that could do the work, you don't think they're married to unemployment and part time work, do you?

Also, even if they're genuine refugees from Central and South American, they're not the responsibility of the US. It's the first country they flee into, not the US. So again, that argument is completely bunk.

And yes, my Polish ancestors are better immigrants because 1. They had jobs waiting upon arrival. 2. They were invited and LEGAL immigrants. 3. They didn't burden the system of social safety nets because it didn't exist. 4. They were Northern Europeans with a similar culture, religion and genetics as the existing US population. 5. They embraced assimilation.

The shitfest is estimated at near 22 million illegals and over $100 billion per year in tax burdens for the US. This scenario isn't "fine", it's a fucking social-economic disaster.

I'm sure many illegals are great people and workers, that's NOT the issue here. It's about the US enforcing the existing immigration laws.

Why is it a silly arguement? That is what we have used in the past and it worked. If the Americans leave their part-time jobs to do the work then we will need someone to fill their previous positions. If Americans are unemployed now then it is basically their own fault and they will remain unemployed whether we have more or less immigrants.

It doesn't matter if it is our responsibility or not. As a wealthy powerful country I think it is partially our responsibility to set a good example and help people in need. They are coming to America with or without the wall so we should document them and let them in.

Your ancestors are not better than them and I'm sure they immigrated for different reasons then these people. All immigrants that I know have a job and a lot have multiple jobs. How were your ancestors invited? By the native Americans? They just received an invitation out of the blue that invited them here? Did they apply or were they refugees?

If we let these people in legally and easily then they will be legal and they won't be a burden on the system because they could pay their share of taxes.

America is a big place and Northern Europeans were a minority in the beginning. Especially if you went to the Western US. Most of the land above the border was originally inhabited by Mexicans and Native Americans, not the Polish. And who cares if they aren't the same culture as you. What everybody in the US has to be like you and your race? Racist.

These people are coming anyways and your stupid wall won't help. What is slowing someone down by 12 seconds going to accomplish? Are there a lot of border arrests that are missed because border patrol was 12 seconds late? The wall is not the answer.

You want the wall because you are a racist.

So I guess there's no enforcement of the rules around here.  Am I able to start flaming members now, or just a double standard?

One of the Mods said something even though there was nothing really wrong with what I wrote. You're just mad because my comments proved you wrong. Maybe you aren't a racist, I don't know, but your comments were based on race and were definitely racist. Saying your Polish ancestors are better than Mexicans because they have a European culture is racist.
If you have a problem with me then just say something to me, no need to waste the moderators time.

Yes, my ancestors were invited by the existing native population, many times they were recruited by companies back in their homeland and then had jobs waiting upon arrival.  That fact makes them BETTER than illegals crossing the border and not being invited.

Also, bringing in people with a similar culture, value system, religion and genetics makes for a much smoother transition than doing the complete opposite.

Acknowledging this reality isn't being "racist", it's basic commonsense.

You think poles have a culture closer to that of Americans than Mexicans? Spanish has always been spoken widely in the US. Much of the territory in the US belonged to mexico or Spain at some point. Spanish place names are ubiquitous across the country. Polish culture is far more foreign to Americans than Mexican.

How many Americans speak polish as a second language compared to Spanish. Not even close. Spanish wins by orders of magnitude. Poles are much more “foreign” and unusual.

You're missing the comparison, I'm referring to the immigration of 100 years ago relative to illegal immigration from the Southern border today.

Theee was no such thing as illegal immigration. You think your ancestors got permission to come to the US? No. They just showed up. And we let them in.

No, it was MUCH more complicated than that scenario.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_Quota_Act

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_Act_of_1924

It was the complete opposite of a free for all. The use of the term "illegal" is nothing more than semantics.

You know what doesn't stop crime?  Stiff penalties.
You know what does help?  Addressing the root issues that lead people to crime.
