A wall isn't effective.  We could end illegal immigration tomorrow with legislation if we wanted to. It wouldn't cost a dime and it would save billions a year.

A wall would be more effective than the current border.  Besides sanctioning illegal immigration, how else would legislation deal with it?

It's obvious.  If Congress opened the border to all immigrants,  there would be no illegal immigration. It's as futile as the war on drugs. It's time to just accept reality and move on.

Well obviously i was referring to my statement that said: the wall would be an upgrade to the current border, and you said it wouldn't be

The Berlin wall is no more. That wall failed. Nice example

Israels wall isn't comparable because of the length and other factors like the guard towers. Is Trump going to build a wall with guard towers for 6 billion? No, it would cost much more. One steel slat, 30' tall is probably like $800 each plus they are heavy as fuck and you have to transport them across the country. Then pay people to install them and maintain them. Where will the workers sleep while they build. This project is going to cost much much more than 6 Billion dollars and what a waste of resources.

No, it takes like 12 seconds to get over the wall. Check the video on the first page. Even if it was 12 minutes that is that long. If it takes 12 minutes then you would still have to have a human guard every mile to round them up.

Animal migration is very important. Read up on the food web please. When the animals die off you'll have to eat that wall.

6 billion is a lot and it could be put to much better use. Like in my area we could use better public transportation and more bridges going over the bay. We could put that money into schools or helping people with mental health problems or whatever. The military budget is way too high, but that is another topic.

It wouldn't. It would be worse. Border enforcement doesn't prevent people from coming any more than drug seizures reduce drug use. The way to combat these problems is by addressing the underlying causes and incentives that create the human needs that drive them.

A wall won't change any of that just like prisons didn't change drug use.

While up it virtually stopped all illegal immigration

I think it would be harder.  But do you think that an open border and the ensuing flood of poor people would put strain on America and possibly cripple it? If no, why not?

No, it is apples and oranges because of the size of that border compared to the size of the Berlin wall. Your example does not apply. If the border was 100 miles then a wall with guards might be feasible. Too bad the border is much bigger though so a wall will not work. Not for 6 billion dollars.

It was manned by snipers with the kgb investigating every rumor or suspiscion in the world.

The situation south of the border is not that bad yet.  Most of it is due to drugs and lawlessness as well is corruption.  Blame Colombia for a lot of that.  They invented a lot of these issues.

Then came marxists.

The concern is a lot more of that.  Russians and Chinese influences.  Colombia wants more power and that means weapons.  Venezuala has the most oil reserves in the world.  They have a lot of weapons.  And are unstable at the moment.

Colombia gets tired of the dea hurting their main agenda.  They want a lot more respect from the usa.  They fot that fighting marxists and somewhat drugs.  But it's counter to their grasp of the cocaine market.  Then they made peace with the rebels and people down there really didn't like that.  Out of the bush and into the bar?

Drugs did a lot to our border because it's outside of US control.  Even if legal it'd be hard to get people used to a legal system.

It would create a stronger economy, IMO. This nation was made great by immigrants.  It sucks now because we're complacent and lazy. More immigrants will bring more people with drive and passion to accomplish things.

Want to make America great again? Immigrants are the way to do that.

But you originally said
The border wall doesn't have a ceiling so you go over it, and if it did then you could still dig under it like they already do in some places.

So we have the berlin wall, isreals wall and the great wall of china as to evidence that walls can work

Idk if that is true nowadays. We have less work and in the foreseeable future manual labor will be obsolete. I don't really know that you can compare historical examples to the present day. Why would adding poor and uneducated people into the growing pool of unskilled labor be a good thing?

The Berlin wall prevented emmigration, not immigration. The great wall of China prevents neither.  Israel's wall isn't about immigration either.

There has been trade routes from the south and north long before america.  They brought info as much or more so than drugs.  People were mystical then.

So much is hip hop fantasy that is empty and threatening these days.  They probably killed people like that at chaco.  Back in the day
